Laundry...?

zesty-man

how do ya like it?
as of recently, ive been buying more clothes for myself, and now i want to do laundry for myself too. i know many of your are meticilious about your car, but is there anyone out there that happens to do meticlious with thier laundry? i was wondering, is there any kinda laundry detergents/products that you would like to recommend for me, and any tips on what to do/what not to do? i figure its the same thing as washing mf towels right? except now were using the dryer too. :newbie

thanks for the help!

I'd guess Tide is the standard of good detergent, but all detergents work to clean clothes, some being less/more harsh on fabrics. Make the entire process easy on yourself by getting something like Tide with Downy liquid so that you draw the water, put a capful of detergent in, put in clothes and after 30 minutes right into the dryer.

I wash with "free" detergent (no bleach alt, scents, etc...) and some oxyclean, and an unsxcented fabric softener.
You're right it's the same as my MF except for the oxy and softner :lol

here's one DON'T DO I learned my first load of laundry in college
..... DON'T ADD LIQUID BLEACH to a color wash:bigscream :eek
...unless you like the 60's look:dunno :(

wash any red clothes separately...I had white working shirt and grey trousers became pink :ranton

95% of the time I'll do a lights and dark load separately. If I need a bunch of different colored items done, I will do all together in a Cold/Cold Setting without a problem.

For designer jeans or very dark items, I do a Cold/Cold setting using Woolite for Dark Colors. Hang dry the jeans and anything that is dryer safe goes on Perm Press, Low Heat.

For the colors, I use a Warm/Cold or Warm/Warm setting and I add the detergent, then turn on and let fill. At about half full, I then begin adding all of the clothing making sure that each piece is not scrunched up. A typical way I find if the cycle is full is when all is filled up, when you push down on the clothing, there should be some play between the clothes. It should NOT feel like 1 piece of clothing in there. Dry on medium heat.

Light colors I will do a Warm/Warm or Hot/Cold setting with a high or medium heat dry. Add everything as stated above.

As far as products, whatever is on sale for detergent. Purex has been the one lately. As stated above, Woolite For Dark Colors works great for dye sensitive materials. I will also add some Fabric Softener (Gain) in the Downy Ball to each load, then 2 Downy Dryer sheets per large load. In the light colors, I will add in 1/4 cup of bleach when I add the soap and let fill up most of the way before adding clothing to insure proper dilution. You can also substitute Oxy Clean (2 Scoops) with this.

Hope this helps.

thanks a lot.

sean, i was wondering why my jeans got so small. i washed them for the first time with a warm/cold wash then i used the dryer on medium heat. the legs got a lot tighter for me! the next time i think im gonnna use cold wash and then hang dry my jeans.

zesty: I usually air dry for a while and then when only the pockets are left damp, throw em in the dryer on low heat for like 30 mins. This helps them get fluffy and regain some shape.
