Laundry detergent!?!

My only concern would be that laundry detergents are expected to be rinsed out. Just how much residue would be left when using the extractor?

Trader Joe's has the least expensive HE detergent I've seen.

Woolite has an HE version - - not the easiest product to locate.

Keep in mind dilution ratios inside a washing machine: Typical detergent amount is about 2 ozs diluted in 5 or 6 gallons of water, I suppose.

As has been discussed in the past, detergents marketed for various purposes are frequently more alike than different. Years ago in one of the Dawn threads one of the ChemE's here went thru the ingredients and pretty much debunked Dawn being much different than the car wash soaps :bolt

I remember that discussion and tried looking for it the other day. I did a Dawn search and there were way too many threads to sift through.

Can you dig up a link??

You are cruel. I'll see what I can do. Back when I was a snot-nosed kid here (last week?) I used to bookmark some threads.

Waxmeister @ DetailBest.Com has no business giving people advice. 16 posts and he's their forum sponsor, geesh, you know what he's there trying to do. If Zymol made a dishwashing detergent, I bet he'd recommend it.

His ignorance is not helping his cause.

That's the one - thanks. Foxtrapper sure did debunk the whole Dawn wash thing for me.

I'm not sure about that. 'Surfactant' is just the ChemE word for the active ingredient in a soap or detergent that allows the dirt to combine temporarily with water and get washed out of whatever's being washed. Different surfactants are formulated for different types of dirt and different types of surfaces. Not all surfactants are created equal. Machine dishwasher soap will take the lacquer off of wooden salad bowls (ask me how I know) for example. Hand dish washing soap won't.

Dawn didn't say exactly what surfactant they were using.
