so one day i ran over a bucket of latex paint..stupid people just left it in the road :nomore: .

well i didnt run it over, someone else did, then i ran over the splatter in the road, i missed most of it, but a lot got on the underside of my right side skirt and in my fender wells, bad

i've tried everything it seems like to get the dried up paint out of the wells, but nothing works :furious:

what can i use?

i've tried tons of chemicals and i've tried APC diluted with a fingernail brush...nothin :nixweiss.

thanks for the help guys

You should be able to remove it easily by blasting it with a pressure washer (1500-2000 psi). Keep the end of your wash wand about 3-5 inches away and it will peel it off without damaging any part of your wheel well. As long as it's relatively fresh, you won't need to waste any time/chemical pre-soaking it either. Just point & spray.

it's not fresh, it's been on there since December. i did blast a bunch off as soon as i got it on there, but didn't get all of it...there was A LOT now, theres a lot, but not as much, lol. i have already tried the pressure washing route too

How about a good old POCKET KNIFE... at least if your wheel wells have plastic liners in them. If the wells it got into don't have liners, just sand them down with 400-600 grit and spray paint them...

OH LORD!!! please tell me you're joking?:grinno:

Pictures would help here --

I had the same thing, only worse. Mine got up and down the lower panels of the vehicle on the passenger side. This happened before I bought it, and had been on for year. Was white road paint as well.

I tried everything, this stuff just doesn't come off.

Eventually I took it to a detail shop, and when I came back, they rubbed off all the paint in the areas where the paint splatter was. (With CLAY BARS) -- Long story short, they paid for a respray of the areas. So its fixed.

But, in hindsite.. Chemicals are the solution if on paint -- If on plastic,.. and its black.. Dont' be afraid to sand it.. try wetsanding first .. You can repaint them easily. Even painting before doing anything would work if it doesn't have much texture to it.

Take the panels out of the car -- And spray them.

I have some Krylon Fusion Spray Paint, and am going to do this very thing in the coming days, I will post results of it.

The easiest way to get the latex paint off is to paint on a gel type paint stripper (found in the paint section of Home Depot) to the whole area. It wont hurt the plastic at all but dont get it on the painted parts of the car. Sanding will be a waste of time with latex paint, its too rubbery and will gum up the sandpaper.

Also make sure you get the WATER based version of stripper. It will be much easier to wash off and neutralize with a hose. The other type you need to use mineral spirits to clean it up.

If you paint the stripper on thick, wait 10-15 min you can simply hose off the wells and it will all fall right off.

Great idea mongo.

These wheel well pieces/plastic pieces are black through and through right? No paint to strip off of them I wouldn't think. (Being designed to take all the road rash without having some primer/other color show through).

Given that fact, you can use harsh chemicals on it, because if anything it will just take a layer of grime off the plastic,.. getting it smooth again after sanding could pose a problem. (I can imagine all the white/grey areas from sand mark/nicks)

Again though, if it was thin in texture, I would just paint over it ;) -- But if the paint stripper works like it should, might as well do it right.

TRY DENATURED ALCOHOL! or 3M Adhesive Remover

I had a client who rubbed up against his garage and got the paint on his bumper, we rubbed some denatured alcohol on it and it melted right off. I believe it was latex paint.

I always tell my customers (when testing if their trim paint in their homes is latex or oil based) to use Denatured Alcohol to see if it comes off. If it does then it's latex based. Just don't go hog crazy with it.

I ran over white splatter white paint this morning and cannot get it off the fender wells. Acetone removed the paint off the bottom half of the paint. Any suggestions? Tried WD-40, orange citrus degreaser. Purple, Mcguires cleaner and none worked, windex

None have worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Your fender wells plastic inserts? Or the rough actual body molding (undercarriage) ?

If it is the rough thick type -- You can sand it.

If it is plastic, you can replace.

At the very least on plastic inserts you can remove them and work with them out of the vehicle , and they can take some very harsh chemicals due to being black through and through.
