Last question on washing

Hi everyone. Just wanted to get this out before I hit the sack b/c I can not post anything at work..(I know it sucks). As you all may recall, I will be attempting to wash my car this week. I do not have the Zaino products yet (but will soon). In the meantime, I will be using these. I have read through a couple of threads but still uncertain on some things. Pls follow through and let me know if this is correct.



Tools:

Eagle One QD or Meguiars QD--> whatever avail @ autozone

Mothers or Clay Magic Clay --> whatever avail @ autozone

Viking Chenille Mitt --> verify 100% cotton

Meg #26 Wax

Meg #34 --> do not recall what this is.

3M SMR

Viking applicator pads/towels --> which ones??

Meg GC car wash --> have already



1) How much is all this stuff gonna cost me? Rough estimate?



Again heres my flow:

1) wash car with meg GC

2) dry with absorber/towel

3) spray QD & apply Clay on car

4) re-wash with Meg GC

5) when do i use the 3M SMR (or do i even need this?)

6) after 3M SMR, apply wax (note, do not need to rinse polish off)

7) buff off wax with applicator pads when dry

8) rinse car with water

9) Dry car

10) quick spray of QD







2) Which applicator pads am i supposed to use for polish? for wax?



3) I will dry with absorber--> will not drag absorber just dab and then follow up with towel..



Does everything look right?

SMR is a swirl mark remover, determine if you have swirls and if you want to try to remove them. It will be more difficult to do this by hand, but some do get decent results w/SMR by hand. No need to rinse.

6) after 3M SMR, apply wax (note, do not need to rinse polish off)

7) buff off wax with applicator pads when dry

8) rinse car with water --> SKIP

9) Dry car --> SKIP

10) quick spray of QD







2) Which applicator pads am i supposed to use for polish? for wax? Personal preference. You could use foam disc pads (like what comes with most paste waxes), or microfiber applicator pads, or cotton applicator pads.

If you want MF from Autozone, I think they also carry Turtle Wax MFs, maybe in 3 packs. These are pretty good. I've heard 100% cotton Viking mitts are becoming extinct at the retail level and no longer even say "100% cotton" on them. I'd get a sheepskin mitt as an alternative.



El cheapo foam applicator pads will work fine too, but some of the shaped pads from Viking and EO might be better for polishing.



5) What Steve said. Effectiveness of a swirl remover depends on you, and how bad the swirls really are. A "swirl remover" is a fairly light polish, but start off mild by default of course.



7) Buff off wax with a MF cloth, not an applicator pad. (I hope this is a typo?)
