.
Crobar did you ever see Daniel Morleon ride veladrome?
No, Unfortunately, I have not. I would have loved to . He was born into cycling as I remember. I believe his dad was a cyclist. Are there any tapes of his races?
Simply put this guy was Da' Bomb!
Believe it or not he is still around as French sprint coach.
One reason Lance looks so unbeatable ,other than his freakin' TEAM is SICK! is his relentless training and conditioning and staying the course during the off season. Here is what Eddy Merckx said of Jan Ullrich this past April.......(from cyclingnews.com)
...Five time Tour winner Eddy Merckx, who is never afraid to speak his mind, told DPA, "It seems that Jan has again not worked hard enough in his previous preparation and is still too much overweight. Sure, he has still over two months, but to beat Lance Armstrong in the Tour will be harder than 2003."
Looks like Eddy nailed it again.
I was out of breath today just watching the last stage of the Alpes. How in the name of all that is powerful can you sprint to the finish of a race when you just traveled up 122 miles in a trajectory more in tune with a rocket ship than a moving vehicle! Tremendous!
Taking absolutely nothing away from Lance....6 Tours!!!! History is being made! ...he looks like he can win 3 more easily.
Has anyone seen some of the videos, I think now they are on DVD, of Eddy and the cyclists of the day? 1960's - 1980?
I have La Course en Tete, which chronicles Eddy merckx through the peak of his career.....You see "The Cannibal" just conquer not only the tour but the other major cycle events. One described EM as a racer who doesn't race against the pack, but he races against himself!
Here is a small list of only some of his victories.....
Most Outstanding Victories:
• 5 Tours de France
• 7 Milan-San Remo Classics
• 5 Tours of Italy
• 5 Liège-Bastogne-Liège
• 1 Tour of Spain
• 2 Tours of Belgium
• 3 World Championships
• 2 Tours of Lombardy
• 1 Tour of Switzerland
• 3 Wallonia Races
• 3 Paris-Roubaix
• 1 World Hour Record
Plus.....here is one that is just a numbing statistic:
Records:
525 victories in 1,800 races. 96 days as leader in the Tour de France. Winner of 35 stages in the Tour de France.
It hurts just to imagine that much racing.
I apologize if I hijacked this Lance post and made it an Eddy chronical......PASSION will do that to ya'!
