Lake Country Pads

I'm looking to buy some pads for my PC but have noticed that LC has 2 diffrent types of pads, the Flat Pads and the CCS Technology Pads. I've seen pictures on here of people either washing or using the only the flat pad. So does anyone use the CCS pad? Is there a BIG diffrance in pads? Is there something about the CCS that people don't like? Thanks
 
The CCS pads are designed to reduce heat and keep the product from soaking into the pad and away from the surface.

I have always liked the flat pad design over any of the curved designs but I will say that there is definitely a difference in the performance of the CCS pads. It's no gimmick.

The CCS models are fairly new additions to the Lake Country lineup. Most people probably haven't had a chance to try them yet.

I have only tried the white polishing version so far. I was very impressed with the results using a PC. The pad seemed to give me a longer working time. In direct comparison to a 7.5" Curved Edge model, my observation was that the CCS pad remained wet for a longer period of time and that there was also less sling.

I agree I noticed the same thing while using the CCS pads but with the compound curves and the hood scoop I prefer a contour pad rather than flat.
If they start making a CCS-VC pad it will cost me $$$$$$ because I will be all over them.
 
I also like the VC pads in the 7.5" size ...I haven't tried the CCS pads but i hope the come in VC when i do:cool:

Question for you Troy. I can see where this would be beneficial for glazes and waxes, but don't you want the heat to break down polishes for swirl removal and other corrections?

That is a good question. It is one I asked myself when these pads first came out. It is a selling point for those who are using them with a rotary and do not want to generate as much heat.

The main advantage with these pads on a DA, IMO, is the slow absorption rate. The heat can still be generated, it just takes the pad longer to generate it, which gives you a longer working time. I find myself using less product too.

Speed is important to me as it should be with anybody detailing for a living. This is why I have started using the low-profile 5.5" CCS Pads. I started using them because I wanted more heat and now they are all I use on my DA because they get in smaller areas and they generate more heat. The only disadvantage I have found to the smaller pad is when your polishing under side mirrors, it doesn't allow you to get up under as far. No biggie to me though because I still had that problem with the 6.5" pads anyway.

I know what some of you are thinking. "But doesn't a larger pad cover more surface which would make polishing faster?" If the same amount of heat was generated then yes a larger pad would get the job done quicker, but in this case, the smaller pad is more effective, getting you done quicker.
 
Heat is a byproduct of friction. If you want more heat either speed up the machine or apply more pressure.
Since the larger pad has a higher surface speed at the outer edge if both were turned at the same speed setting and with the same pressure the large pad would generate more heat.
The thing that I like about the CCS pad is I don't use as much product and it seems to allow me to work the product longer without going into a dry buff.
I do most of my work on my show car and quality is job #1
If I detailed for a living then I probably would use a large pad on a rotary and get it done fast.
People are not going to take their daily driver to a show and they are not willing to pay for that kind of detail
 
I prefer the larger pads, maybe that's what I'm used to and again it also depends on the experience of the user. The foam pads tend to generate heat no matter the size and using the technology that the CCS pads offers will let you work a product longer than a typical foam pad.:)
 
One thing that I think your missing is the smaller pads are thinner. The thinner pad has less foam to absorb the heat of the friction as well as the action of the buffer. Believe me, these low profile pads give you more heat than the larger ones, but yes speed and pressure definitely are factors as well.
