Lab Sample D

Mike Phillips- Thanks, your reply DID clear up some things. I HAVE been able to do some "saves" using only a DA (the Cyclo seems to work MUCH better for this than the PC), but:

-as you said, it's tough to get a REALLY nice finish if you're starting with something that's quite marred . The basic "proceed from the coarsest needed and work to very fine" process doesn't always work as well as one might expect.

-doing modern bc/cc DOES take FOREVER, as in MANY HOURS per panel and life is too short. Even soft ss paint can take days by DA.

Numerous Autopians have been stymied by marring on hard bc/cc finishes that they just CAN'T really (completely) remove with their DA's. I'm hoping that this thread might've shed some light on the situation.

I get the feeling we're gonna be revisiting this subject of rotaries and their related issues ;) Thanks again.

I don't really ever try to come to this forum and "Sell" Meguiar's, but...

If anyone is interested in learning to use the rotary buffer here are three ways.

Autopia Seminar's at Meguiar's It's in the works. This will be a number of events, some 2, maybe three days long.

Autopia Saturday's at Meguiar's (For local folks)

PES101V Meguiar's video, "How to Remove Paint Defects, which is an instructional video that covers how to use the rotary buffer, as well as many other things. (I wrote the script).

Mike

Mike,

What locations are in the works? Any comming to the East Coast?

Also, please send a link where we can purchase the video.

BTY, what speed did you operate the rotary on for the #9. I'm going to use the SFP since I have a gallon avalible with the 9227C Makita.

Just love the Hand Polish and wish it was also in gallons! Use it with a finishing pad for stunning results and less headache than #7, which I normally use.

Alternatives: 3M PIII-MG. Lexus clearcoat seems soft as this SC430 was chipped very easy as opposed to Lexus single stage black on my previous one.

Now, if I can only get some small light scratches and heel marks off the Armorglove. The Plastix didn't work for that, but it does a very nice job on harder plastics.

Regards,

Deanski

We will be starting here on the west coast but, an east coast event is on the drawing board.

To get the video, just go to any PBE store, (Paint, Body & Equipment). If they sell Meguiar's products, then they can order the video from the same warehouse through which they purchase through.

Operating speed for the rotary/#9/W-9006 was approximately 1500rpm

Mike

Once again MIKE comes through! THANKS MIKE!:up

Gee is it a coincidence that it's Lab Sample "D". Yes, "Deanski" likes! Anytime you want a field test, I'll volunteer my company car once they fix the darn thing, threw timing belt and bent 5 valves! Head work in progress.

You know, one day you should start a thread on what Autopian's would like to see come from Meguiars.

One thing that can stand improvement, the overspray clay. Too many people have compaints that it leaves debris/film on the finish.

How about a new QD towel like Autopia's CBT or DFTowel?

Hand Polish in gallons!

Dispenser bottles with the flip-top caps instead of the nossle caps.

Pads that do not seperate from the velcro.

Improve on Engine Kote, works better if applied with a disposable foam paint brush, otherwise it spatters on the engine area in little droplets when sprayed with a high volume sprayer.

FD in smaller bottles same as FI for those not wanting a full gallon or 5 gallon container.

Once again, thanks and good luck with LAB SAMPLE D :D

Deanski

WOW:shocked

Now THIS product looks VERY promising!!!! Damn if Megs can get this out to market with the Pro line first, I think you finally have the answer to all these multi-products ( Poly/wax combo) and with the possibility of longevity this can be a real winner!

Looks nice on the red vette! Sure wish I still had my '69 L88! God I miss it!!!

Keep me informed on "LSD" Kinda like lsd.. pretty colors :p

Let those that see the suggestions know that megs #81 HP in gallons would be a welcome addition and would require not much effort.

Love to see "LSD" on a Lexus SC430 Red! Or, a 360 Mondena would be nice as well.. (next car if wife doesn't divorce me..ohh idea:p).

Now, all we need now is an interior protectant like #40, but with a better smell of a new car. Does smell good, but I think it can be improved. Just love the way my SC430 smells after sitting in the sun for awhile since it's still new. Match that and you'll have a hard time keeping it stocked I think!

PM me if you need any info for a test subject and manpower or Meguiars personnel to perform.

Deanski

Hey hey hey...

Let's keep it clean here, (no pun intended). :D

Lab Sample is still being tweaked, thus Lab Sample E is next.

I will be looking for some testers, but have not given the process much thought yet.

Mike

Mike,

One of the dealers in Mass area, I believe it's C.A.R. Products is a heavy Megs distributor/dealer and has had Meguiars up at one point. This may be one site to consider for the East.

Let's see, sample D now E... was there an A? Getting there! Nice to have samples spell out your Autopia name :D

Let's see sample "E"!!!

Deanski

Mike,

If you are looking for testers I would like to volunteer! I have Zaino but thus far have resisted using it on my car mainly because of it's incompatibility with just about everything else on the market. If this new product is going to be compatible with other Meguiars products, count me in for sure!

Lab Sample "E"

Hey.. I even HAVE a red car to try it on!

I'll have to emulate the same conditions ie; RO-ZILLA and PC to achieve the same results to be in the same lab test as that is only fair and seems to be the proposed standard.

Documented step-by-step is also a factor to be within the same guidelines.

Lexus paint seems soft, so this plays a factor as well.

Anytime Mike... I'm a willing candidate! Nice 2003 SC430 at your disposal :wavey

Deanski

Does Meguiars ever come to Dallas, Texas. I would love some one-on-one with Meguiars detailer.

Same here. I attended a Meguiars training session years ago when the truck/classroom was at Progressive Surface Care (now Wash Solutions) and learned a lot.

Dean-you can get #81 in gallons. I have one in my storage room right now. #8101.

Mike-I'd be more than happy to test your lab sample alphabet! I regular detail vehicles from your everyday SUV and sedan all the way to exotics and everything in between!
