Krispy Kreme, how NOT to run a business

Krispy Kreme was good. And there are times when i just craved for one donut. Its just like after The Simpsons movie was coming along, 7-11's began making some stores into Kwik-E-Marts. But they are doing pretty good.

Anyways, the Krispy Kremes located around my area closed down. Now they've become Chick-Fil-A which is good. I love their chicken clubs.

The Krispy Kreme near me (Cerritos) also turned into a Chick-Fil-A. When Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sundays, Krispy Kreme should operate. It's a win-win situation! :D

Back in the 60's/70's in Attleboro, MA just over the RI line, there use to be a Mister Donuts, maybe in the 80's until today. Are they still around? They were pretty good I remember.

Mister Donut at one time was actually a pretty sizeable chain. IIRC there was one on rt. 9 in Wellesley. Sadly, Mister Donut is gone the way of the dodo.

I do know where there a couple of mom & pop donut places I've just never gone in because they're not in convenient locations. There's one on rt. 27 in Natick and there's one on Center St. in W. Roxbury for instance.

This is funny . . . on Martha's Vineyard they don't allow chain stores (except Stop & Shop). There's no Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts or a Gap or any of that crap. There is a donut shop on the island called Dippin' Donuts. The sign is a TOTAL ripoff of Dunkin' Donuts. Of course, the name is similar but the font and color scheme of their sign is exactly like Dunkin' Donuts. I'm shocked and amazed that DD has not sued their pants off for copyright infringement.

Cerritos in SoCal or NorCal?

I hope the same thing doesn't happen to Chick-Fil-A. They seem to be growing pretty fast. They opened at least 2 places around me (that I know of) within less than a 2 year period. That's another place I get a craving for. There have been so many times when Chick-Fil-A is the only thing that will hit that spot, and I pull into their parking lot only to realize it's a Sunday!

I was flipping around cable one Sunday morning and happened upon FoodTV as this recipe was being prepared:

Bill Nicholson's Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding with Butter Rum Sauce Recipe: Recipes: Food Network

I've never worked up the courage (nor the insulin) to try this recipe. You can click the link for the gory details, but here's the ingredients list:

2 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts

1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)

2 (4.5-ounce) cans fruit cocktail (undrained)

2 eggs, beaten

1 (9-ounce) box raisins

1 pinch salt

1 or 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Butter Rum Sauce, recipe follows

Butter Rum Sauce:

1 stick butter

1 pound box confectioners' sugar

Rum, to taste

I think my blood sugar and cholesterol jumped just copying and pasting that. Holy heart attack, Cardiologist-man . . .

Thanks Tort, I saved that recipe in my bookmark. I'll make my wife bake that for me after an all nighter in Vegas. She better know her place after reading that Good Housekeeping article!
