Klasse with no clay bar

Can I go straight to AIO after I wash the car without clay bar'ing? The AIO will take off the old stuff it says. I just want to do a quick detail. Might just put a shot of NXT on till it warms up and I can do a full detail.
 
Yeah sure apply which ever you like right after washing . There's no rule that says you need to clay your car .

:D Knock yourself out :xyxthumbs Clay it when you do your full detail .
 
I disagree. AIO is a powerful chemical cleaner, and it will remove oxidation and any wax or sealants that are already on your car. However, you could still have dust and other contaminants on your paint.



Everytime I've clayed, I've been stunned by what came off the car. I think it is well worth doing each time you apply AIO.

I agree 100%. Clay when you can. I was amazed by how smooth my paint was after clay then AIO + SG. I figure I'll clay every 6 months to get the results I want.

I think your missing Bowens question . Both red statements sound the same to me .





I believe he's asking do I need to clay now or can I just skip it and do when its warmer out. I could be totally wrong on this , but that's how I interpret his question .:nixweiss
 
Bowens99gt, if you can find the time you may want to clay. I tried the no clay Aio route for a quick detail on one my trucks and I really wish I would have done the clay, was not totally happy with the outcome. AIO did a nice job after the wash and was nice and smooth but I feel like there was a slight bit of crap left behind. hope this helps you out
 
I just did AIO with no clay last week, and decided today to go ahead with claying. I thought I might have a nicer, slick surface to clay from. Instead, I would say the claying wasn't as effective--I think it slicks up the contaminants and prevents them from being picked up. So now I'm going to Dawn and clay, then re-AIO/SG.



So ideally, yes, definitely clay first. But of course you won't hurt anything to skip it this time around.
 
The prep is all important to how your detail will come out. I have read time and time again that with proper prep, even mediocre products can dazzle. I would clay before I polish and be meticulous in how well I clean the paint. I now clay, polish then use the AIO. I have had results which amazed me ! Use your own judgement, but IMHO, you should do everything possble to clean and remove defects before you seal/wax .
 
sorry to resurrect this thread. But let's say you forgo the clay right after AIO and proceed with SG then LSP. Will there anything visually different than doing it with clay?

Clay before AIO. AIO is a chemical cleaner which preps SG . . . then LSP. Depending on the surface, clay may not be necessary. Good luck :)

Detailer's cleaning clay is a soft pliable plastic bar that contains abrasives to remove embedded pollutants by encapsulation or shearing, lifting debris from the paint film surface and leaves behind an ultra-smooth surface that will make your paint protection adhere better and improve its durability.

A: An Optically perfect shine comes from a clean, prepared and level surface; it improves the desired optical properties, surface reflectance. The other requirements are surface gloss, depth of shine and applied product transparency (clarity), which allows all of the components of an optically perfect shine to be visible.

If you're working a light-colored vehicle, clay can remove (or at least diminish) visible imperfections such as rust blooms that AIO really can't handle. If it's a dark colored vehicle I honestly don't think the average person will be able to tell a difference unless there's a lot of contamination on there.



Note that I'm a real fanatic about clay (I even spot-clay with every wash). I'd never do a detail without it, but that doesn't mean that *everybody* has to clay all the time. Yeah, it's a good thing to do. No, it's not always absolutely necessary to have a good looking vehicle. All a matter of degree....
