Bill, I would have to respectfully disagree with you. Many here including Detailking have already expressed that many dealerships apply an oily wax on top of the car to fill in light to medium swirls that they themselves caused during the washing and or drying stage. This is a fact. I've seen it done. I've seen how they wash brand new cars in many dealerships. I've seen many showroom cars that are full of swirls as well as have others. It is quite common for the dealerships to do use an oily wax to fill these swirls in a bit. They want the customer to be as pleased as possible.
Now you ask, then why don't we just all use these cheap waxes that will wear off after two washes. Well you already answered your own question. We are detailing enthusiasts. Why would any of us live with less than near perfect or perfect finishes. Anything less would be uncivilized (Sorry Charles Barkley)
Bill this is precisely why many of us demand at the dealerships that they don't even wash the car for us. I believe Darbh was the last person to mention this here on the forum. I believe he mentioned this in person to the manager and even gave them a written letter. He didn't want them to touch it. I can't blame him. Laters.
