Klasse removal....

Hello folks! E#veryone have a nice weekend? Question here. I tried Klasse, dont care for it, going back to Zaino. Is a few dawn washes and claying the car enough to remove the Klasse that is on it right now? Or will I need to clay several times? Thanks Autopians!

When did you try it? Did you give it a chance?

I would polish the car to make sure it was removed properly. Or you could just use AIO again and that would take care of it. Anything the AIO leaves behind isn't anything that would interfere with Z.

Just curious, what didn't you like about it?

I believe mineral spirits might take care of it, or any mild polish/pre-wax cleaner will do the job. In my own experience Dawn doesn't seem to hurt it much.

I just did not think that it did anything for my car. My car is a 2003 and the pain is in very good shape and I just like the way that Zaino looks much better. It has a pop to it that makes my paint just shine and brings out the color. Klasse just kind of sat there. I admit I have only topped it with s100. I bought it for a co-worker and just tried it. Will going over it with DACP and claying it remove it. The Dawn was to remove the s100. Thanks!

I was under the assumption that you had to put Z on bare paint that it will not bond properly to another material.

FUEL- Clay never seemed to do much to my Klasse, Dawn either. The DACP will almost certainly take (abrade) it off, but if you want to avoid all that polishing action, you can try rubbing alcohol. I've removed AIO+SGx2 with it before. Let it dwell on the paint for a while, it takes a little time to do its thing. Then you can follow up with a milder polish (just to make sure) and remove less clearcoat.

Solvents like Prepsol will work too, if you want to get industrial about it.

I have used AIO as a base for Z. It works fine. I've noticed no durability issues. :up

Being candid, there isn't much polymer in AIO IMO. It's mainly a cleaner.

Good to know. I am heading to lunch with a client will respond more in a bit.

Ugh freaking work so busy today. What would you do SRL before reapplying Zaino. I have one caot of AIO on it right now but I need to get some scratches out so I will have to DACP. Can you explain what to do to clean the paint of the AIO then to Zaino. Back in a hour or so.

Since you have scratches to remove, the DACP will remove the Klasse. So, removing the Klasse on those area's won't be a concern. If you wish, you could use AIO after DACP. Then Zaino after AIO. If you don't want to use AIO, you can just DACP then wash, then Z. If you want the paint totally stripped before Z, the alcohol method works pretty good.

The choice is really yours. I just use AIO as more of a paint prep tool. For most of my cars, I don't need to polish often. That's where AIO comes in handy for me. It's fairly mild, and cleans well. Basically, it lets me start over with having to use abrasives that I don't need. It gets the paint nice and clean, and IMO does not contain much polymer so I've never had bonding issues. I didn't notice any change in looks with AIO under Z. Just an option to think about. :up

Thank you :) I was confused and it doesnt help that today is Monday. So would claying do any good then? I guess I want to know where claying would fit in. So I am thinking

DACP

clay

AIO (if I want to)

Zaino?

Would this be a correct order?

Because the way it sounds clay will not do anything to the DACP correct?

I would switch the DACP and Clay so it looked like this.

Clay

DACP

AIO (if you want)

Zaino as normal.

Clay first. That way if you get any micro marring from the clay it will be removed by the DACP. :up

Excellent! Thank you so much for clearing that up.

Good stuff Brad. I too am finding that AIO in lieu of Z-1 is a great alternative to the traditional Dawn wash/Z-1 or ZFX route. In fact, AIO seems to be a great first step to any car with paint in "almost" perfect condition.
