Klasse AIO layering question

Is it ever necessary to use multiple layers of AIO? Or should the multiple layers be saved for SG? And let's assume that you do have multiple layers of SG, can you still top with P21S?

Thanks,

DavidM

AIO is a cleaner mostly and your car isn't going to benefit from multiple layers of it. It would be like layering multiple layers of car wash. It just doesn't work. There is a protection factor of AIO that may help out but you are removing each layer of AIO with subsequent layers. The only time I would use AIO more than once in an area is if you were cleaning the paint and you needed to go over it again. Like when you have to run a dish through the dishwasher more than once to get it clean. Other than that I would just go with one coat of AIO and then layer the SG on top.

You can top SG with P21S as long as you've given the SG the 24 hour recommended cure time to do it. You'll probably want to wash the car again or QD it before waxing it just to get the dust off. You can drive it while its curing but you want to let it have that time to do whatever curing does.l

DavidM,

AIO,due to the cleaners in it, doesn't layer,SG is different story...

Get as many layers of SG as you want and it's good for topping with carnauba...

I do AIO twice to make sure that I didn;t miss any spots. Sometimes on lighter cars it is difficult to tell if you got everything. Other than that there is no reason to double do the AIO. See Jimwh thread on Klasse. It is ultrainformative.

I'll offer a contrarian opinion here. IMO (and everyone has one, so take it for what it costs you :p), you CAN layer both KAIO and Autoglym SRP, but only to a very slight extent. The trick is to apply the second coat VERY thinly and VERY gently, so that very little "cleaning" action takes place. It's not like layering SG or anything, but I think it provides a little added protection. I got the idea from Autoglym (they absolutely claim you can layer SRP this way) and I THINK it works. As I recall, YoSteve, a true Klasse expert, feels the same way. Guess I oughta do a test to build up my flame resistance, but as I said, just my $0.02. Now, as to WHY you'd do it, well, I do it when I'm gonna top with wax instead of SG.

There was also a theory floating around that AIO only leaves protection if you let it sit for an hour or so before removing it. Otherwise it provides almost nothing. I cannot attest for this theory, but the latter part is true. Consider it a cleaner and nothing more.

I use AIO twice to make sure I didn't miss anything, and if I have lots of layers built on the surface I like to make sure I cut down to the clear. :up

Hey Guys. Its raining here this weekend. I just finished claying my new Silver-Grey M3 and wiped it down with some FI. Now what to do. I have a blank sheet if you know what I mean. Do I start with the AIO or do I try the Platinum Pre-Clean before AIO? HMMMM Any suggestions while I eat lunch?

Bob

rleven - I myself would use the Platinum cleaner first, then the AIO. But if you want to go straight to the AIO, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Guess my final answer in this case is "do whatever you feel like doing". We're sorta splitting hairs here.

I think I'm going to try.

1 - Platinum Pre-Clean

2- 2XAIO

3 - 3XSG

4 - Many coats of Souveran over the next 2 weeks.

Will post pic after second coat of souveran.

I'm not sure the Platinum pre-cleaner is necessary at all. Last I checked, it was as mild as, or even more mild than AIO. The new formula may have changed this.

Going right AIO seems fine to me.

Based on what most of you who say you use AIO twice are saying I think you are saying the same thing I said. You may go over it twice to make sure you get everything but its not because you think its going to layer or anything like that. Its just getting it a bit cleaner. I still don't think you can layer AIO no matter how lightly you put it on. Its not an abrasive so pressure or coat thickness doesn't matter. I can remove oxidation with it by barely rubbing a microfiber pad back and forth on the panel. AIO does all it needs to do just by touching the car almost. "layering" isn't an option with a cleaner and it wouldn't help anyway. SG is the pop and the pow of the Klasse system. Save your energy for layering that product.

Actually, AIO is an Acrylic and it does layer. Instructions from those geeky people that you buy from says an additional coat will drop another Acrylic layer on it. This is the AIO they are talking about not the SG. I just read the instructions.

Bob

Well, I just don't buy it. How can something strong enough to remove the stuff I have removed with it not be able to remove a very small layer of acrylic? That just doesn't make sense.
