Two weeks ago, Joe (Gamma S2k on s2ki.com) inquired about a detail to see if I would be able to get rid of the swirls in his black paint. I said sure, shouldn't be a problem so, he bought it down so I could give him a price and to make sure I would be able to remove the defects. That day, it was cloudy outside so I had him pull it into the garage and looked at it under the lights and it was swirled but not too bad. Well, yesterday he brings it by and at about 10 AM I get to look at it and the sun is in full force and this is what I see...

It was a lot worse than I anticipated. The sun definitely doesn't lie and I knew I had my work cut out for me.

So, I started with a wash using ONR followed by a clay using Meguiar's Professional Clay with ONR lube. This got the paint to shine and show the defects even more. Here is the car after being washed and clayed...

Now it was time for some paint correction. So, for this job, I busted out the PC and started with some Menzerna SIP. I used a two step polish on this one. The second step was Menzerna Super Finish. I have pics after the SIP but none after the Super Finish.

At this point, I went inside to eat/take a break. I had been at it for a good 4 hours and definitely needed a break. After my break, I went back at it with the Super Finish on a white pad.As stated before, I don't have any pics after that step.

When I was done with that, I did an IPA wipedown and topped the car off with some Collinite 845 Insulator Wax to give it that shine and long lasting protection. While the wax was breaking down, I did everything else such as the windows, tire dressing, etc.

So, here is the final product...

And my favorite shot...look at that reflection and shine!

I wasn't able to get a 100% swirl free finish but about 90% of them came up. The car looks 100x better.

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoyed!

Thanks man!

So heres the story on how the car got that way. Joe bought this car 2 years ago in Iowa before he moved down to San Diego. Well before he left, somebody wrote on his car while it was dusty which messed up the paint and left the writing imbedded in the paint. So, he took the car to the local body shop to have them fix it and the car ended up turning out like so. However, he didn't know it because when he got the car back, it was snowy outside and plus he made his cross country trip to San Diego. When he washed it finally, he noticed the paint was worse than before but it was too late by then. That's when I came to save the day :)

Yeah I know. I want to learn photography really bad! I also want to get a better camera! That's on my to do list.

Does anyone see any room for improvement? I would love to get my work as close to perfect as possible!

1.) take picture at the same light, distance & angle in before/after

to give a better idea of the work done

2.) clean & dress the wheelwells that just kills a detail for me

Oh yeah. Good point. This detail was strictly paint correction. I didn't even do the inside of the wheel. He said that he only wanted the front of the wheels clean.
