Keeping Spammers off TID

great! this site is pretty calm as far as members attacting each other and so forth. so just geting rid of the spammers would be all that i would do. and not abuse the power of that.

That's what I'm saying. Having moderated before, you can have those with specific permissions like banning, editing posts, etc. So you can have the problems solved much quicker, but the power can't be abused if you give out limited permissions.

im on a few other sites and the owners offered a moderator postion and it worked out well. because owners of the site cant always be there of course.
and of a moderator over uses his power they can have there postion removed.

reading all the cardiac arrest meetings and other doctor meeting spam is abit like my fathers work is on this forum

Wow... After this latest batch of spam, I vote to have some placing new threads from new members under moderation. Or, just block the word "drug" in the thread titles.

At the risk of sounding like an owner... I am the only person that selects people to be a moderator on this forum. My logic is I only want people that I believe truly understand what we are trying to do. There are currently five people helping to keep an eye on this forum. They all have the same set of "rules" to guide them. They all understand this is not brain surgery and we are just trying to have a nice place to gather with some friends and talk about one of the passions in our lives, pure and simple. Yes, as a business owner I would like to sell something, sometime. Like everything else in life, there is a cost to running our business and this forum is owned by a retail business. However, as you all know, we allow conversation about any product regardless of the fact that we "do" or "do not" sell it. To me it is useful information as to what our customers want us to sell. Perfect examples of this would be the expanded Meguiar's offerings we now carry, the addition of brands like Collinite, Optimum, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
><st1:PlaceType alt=
Lake Country</ST1:p "Flat" pads and Surbuf pads are all on PAC because of the people on this forum. The only time we take someone to the "wood shed" is if they come in here and start to "soft sell" some product or service thinking everyone on this forum is mentally asleep.

Regardless of all of the ?Filters? we use to stop these people (robots actually) every once in a while a real ?carbon unit? sneaks in and then one of the moderators has to remove them, ban them and log the IP address. While not perfect, it has worked very well. Admin figures he dumps over 300 robot attempts per DAY.
<O:p
We have some great people here with mountains of useful experience to pass on. I believe the members of this community have done a remarkable job on keeping TID one of the friendliest places on the web with little SPAM and little DRAMA.<O:p</O:p
As we grow, I will be adding more moderators and they will likely be members of this community. Please continue to keep our house in order.

<O:pThanks

Jack - First of all thank you for funding this board via your business (it isn't pennies a day for sure). You have a wonderful staff at both the store and as admins on here. We understand.
