keeping rubber dressing from glass and paint

HI Guys,



How do you guys keep from smearing rubber dressing on your windows and paint? :confused:



Everytime I dress the rubber around my windows I get some on the glass and some on the paint. So I have to go back and clean what has already been clean.



The same thing happens with the door handles. It drives me insane. :nixweiss
 
Well the trim around my windows isn't rubber, so I just wash/wax it along with the rest of the car. If you are talking about the weatherstripping inside the doors and trunklid, I use 1Z Gummipfledge and it works perfectly. The bottle comes with a handy little applicator sponge that is sized just right for treating weatherstripping.

If you had to, I guess you could tape off the area around the rubber when you dress it, but that seems like a lot of work to me.

Do you have a picture of the rubber you're talking about?
 
I use the round closed-cell foam applicators, and fold them in half.



It gives me a nice straight line so I don't end up with product where I don't want it.
 
I apply protectant to the rubber seals with a small foam paint brush. It's about half an inch wide and makes doing this very easy.
 
I do the trim first, and any smears get polished off the glass and paint later. This also helps keep polish from staining trim (although I don't worry too much about that using AIO/SG and/or S100).

Yeah, something like that or a swab or sometimes even a small, regular paint brush (like a size 1 or zero). Takes a while though.



And I always use the least amount of dressing required and wipe it off to remove any exess.



FWIW, I don't treat these areas all that often. Never been a problem, they don't deteriorate nearly as fast as you might expect, even on vehicles that are outside 24/7.
 
Yeah I only treat my weatherstripping twice a year and it's smooth and supple for the whole year. The 1Z Gummipfledge and it's little built-in applicator are really convenient though.

I live in Arizona... like 5k above see level so the weather is very dry and the sun is harsh to everything! I have seen cars look really damaged... to say nothing of interiors!
