Just watched some windshield repair.....

A friend of mine is selling his windshield repair business. He ran it with his self serve car wash by appointment only. I've been on the fence about it so I decided to watch him to four windshield chips.....all in 1.5 hours.

And he made 60.00 per chip.

Needless to say I'm sold.

Just want to know about who here has done this and what kits are the best. He really hasn't maintained the kits. All the resins are about empty. Actual hardware is ok though.

I sell ten dollar washes, sitting right beside the ding guy.

I got a banner made that says "wash your car 10 bucks and up"

One of the members was selling all the windshield repair gear.

Check out the great deals forum.

240 dollars in 1.5 hours, not too shabby.

Great point David about how people don't pay for this themselves.

This mashes it a much more realistic business, as

many people view this as a free service.

How difficult is it to get set up as a vendor with insurance companies

Sounds like easy money. Keep in mind that Insurance companies pay for this service and don't raise people's rates.

Well I talked to him more yesterday and he also wants to sell the FRANCHISE with the equipment. He is in a network that refers insurance work. He showed me last year's receipt and damn, pretty awesome.

Overall it netted him 15000.00 last year with the insurance work and a banner at his self serve car wash.

looking into this as well since I got a bad chip/star from a rock the other day.

150K a year sounds nice!

150 per hour sounds even better!

I believe he said only $15k a year. Although with a very large scale operation and solid insurance referrals it could be possible.  But good luck Safelite literally owns this market.

If you plan to make serious money doing chip repair, like most business is needs to be done full-time. While someone may fix 4 repairs in 1.5 hours today, tomorrow it may take 8 hours to fix/sell 6 repairs.

Out here in Stockton there is a company called Eco Glass. They are set-up at the major car washes in the area. There are 1-3 reps at each site. They hustle/hassle every car they see with a chip all day long. A great rep on a great day will do 20-25 repairs. A great rep on a bad day will do less that 10. A low performing rep will do about 5 or less in an 8-9 hour period.

The money is there. There are headaches that come with it though. Dealing with insurance companies can be a pain. Late payments, non payments, some insurance companies are paying less or refusing to pay for chip repairs.

Dealers are a hard sell if you are not offering glass replacement.

For me, I like it as a complimentary service to detailing.

I purchased my kit from American Repair Kits. Delta makes a really nice bridge.

I added Windshield Repair to my biz back in 2006, and in my area at the time, it wasn't flooded with people doing it, therefore as an add on service, I added an additional $10K plus annually for the first couple of years, with most of this being insurance referrals. As the years have progressed, the referrals have decreased, and more and more people are offering the service. Also, an outside company came into town a couple years back and went crazy with setting up all over the area at gas stations and such, made it extremely tough for anyone to really make it a solid biz by itself.

Good add on though, GT Glass, Delta, they both make good kits...
