Just ordered a Canon Rebel XTI

I was just reading about the 50 1.8 and saw a lot of mixed reviews on it. Some said it was worth the price tag and some other said to stay away. I personally don't think it's all that bad for under $90 but is it really worth it?

Yes it get's your foot in the door.. either that or you can get the sigma 50 1.4 and get results like this

Optically, its a great lens. Physically, quality is lacking; its all plastic and can break easily--that's why they are so cheap. I haven't dropped mine or anything so I haven't put it to the test...

I have the XTI with a Sigma 18-200 lens. I have almost all the capabilities I had with a Canon T90 with multiple lenses, including a 24-70, a 75-250, and a doubler. The 18-200 is actually about 24-320, which covers every normal shot.

LOL, that's awesome. These new dSLR cameras can produce spectacular images. I'd suggest reading the manual several times with the camera in-hand. Try to ween yourself from the AUTO mode when you feel comfortable doing so.

Enjoy :up ...and you have to post your 3 best shots on Monday :)

+1 for getting the 1.8 50mm prime. Killer picture quality for dirt cheap! It'll also let you play with shallow DOF which is one of the funner parts of using a DSLR!

Congrats on the purchase, I actually just got a Nikon D40 two days ago and I'm excited as hell to start using it.

I tried numerous cameras and kept swapping them until I fell in love with the D40. They are the best bang for the buck right now. I am still amazed at the picture quality.
