Just got my PC 7424XP! (pics and short video included)

Hey mike, where would you rate optimum polish II? on par or more aggressive than FPII? looking for a middle polish between FPII and SIP, instead of just different pads and two more passes...

Thanks Al! Hope all is well with you as well!

I'm probably going to flamed for this, but I'm not a fan of orange cutting pads or #105. :bolt

I've always felt like orange pads are too stiff. If I need serious cut, I just bust out my LC PFW pads on the rotary. Maybe I should try the 5.5" low-profile orange pads? As far as #105 is concerned, I think it cuts great but I hate how finicky it is. Instead, I prefer #95. It has the same cut but is much more user-friendly. Plus, it's MUCH cheaper! Although, it's not really a DA product like #105 is these days.

While I do like 105, I totally agree about the orange foam cutting pads. If I need that much cut, I go to PFW, which (for me, at least) finishes out better than orange foam, runs much cooler, and cuts quite a bit faster than foam.

Unfortunately, I'm not as versed with FP II as I am with SIP (not that I'm an expert with SIP either). That said though, I'd say OP II would fit nicely above SIP and below FP II. As I mentioned earlier, I think OP II is a very nice upgrade from the original OP.

Hope this helps as least a little!

I agree about the PFW.

My other thought about orange cutting pads is that because they are so stiff, I don't feel like to conform to the contours of a panel.

Generally, I like using the Meguiar's polishing pads for just about everything except finishing and LSP'ing. I'd much rather move to a more aggressive compound and stay with a Meg's polishing pad than go more aggressive with the pad. I'm all about conforming to the contours of the panel. :buffing:

Does that mean OP II has more cut than SIP, or ???

After you "beat" on the orange pads a bit they soften up just right.

I still need to do a side by side with the XP and standard 7424 with the KBM to see how much more correction the XP will get me.

Thanks for sharing your findings. :up

I worked with the XP for about 2.5-3 hours over the past week and I think it definitely vibrates less, probably due to more weight. The power at speed 6 is definitely felt more so than the G110, let alone the old PC, but, like I said, I think the vibration isn't worse and probably a bit better, due to the weight of the machine.

No problem Bryan! I'll be interested to here/see your results with the KBM on the 7424xp.

I read it that the XP vibrates less.

When I first pulled it out of the box and turned it on, with no pad it did seem to vibrate less. But once I threw on a polishing pad and actually used it, there were more vibrations. Although, one could also just conclude that you feel more of the power. Depends on how you look at it I guess.

Regardless though, if you're in the market for a DA I'd highly recommend the 7424xp over anything else, especially when you consider the cost.

Does it bog down as much as the older one did, as in does the pad stop turning just as easily as the older one.

What pads did you use?

Not even close. I can lean on it pretty good at speed 6 for it to start slowing down.

The Meg's yellow polishing pad. I haven't tried to LC 5.5" low-profile pads on it just yet, but plan to at some point.

Try the 5.5" LC pads and let me know if you still feel the same vibrations. I didn't compare the two side by side, but I know that my G110 vibrated less than the old 7424 (which I had for a while before selling) and it definitely felt like the XP didn't vibrate as much.

Ivan, you got the XP?

Yup. Got it a few weeks ago and sold one of my G110s. I might sell the other G110 also and get a Flex just to complete the collection haha
