Just got my new toys!!!....foam gun fun!!

coupe- I followed your link over to the pics of your truck detail, looks good! Now you have a good start and the foamgun oughta help keep it looking like that :D

I bought it 10 years ago and cant find it anywhere. Its unlike any other nozle ive found becuase the opening is super small. The velocity of the water when you open the valve is so strong it recoils like a hand gun. I can BLAST oil spots off my driveway with it.



All i know is it says Nelson on the side and made in the USA.





One thing i want to complain/ask about.

Why arent hose quick connects standard like air quick connects? I mean you buy a brass hose quick connect made by one company then buy another set from a different company to find out they arent interchangable.

No.. I got that thing when I was alittle kid and have no clue where it came from. If I had to guess wer got it at lowes..



It doesnt do to good since our water pressure sucks.. I guess thats why I stopped using it..

I just got a brand new one from off eBay Express. Paid $25 with $6 shipping. Just got it today and it works like a charm. I know they have more as I just checked. It's an older model as it doesn't have the adjustable sliding pin and has a white foaming wand instead of black. I just sent Gilmour an e-mail to see if I can get a replacement adjustable pin. All you should have to do is remove the pin that's in there now and put in the adjustable one. In all reality I'm not sure I need to do this as it was pumping out some serious foam. I tested it out on my wheels with MGC shampoo and it worked great. Highly recommended!!!
 
Does anyone worry that presoaking the car with foam will degrade the LSP, even tho it's diluted? I always use as little car wash soap as possible (thanks tom p), and typically rinse it off very quickly after doing a panel so it has as little time as possible to 'eat away' at my lsp.
 
Lightman- I'm leery of generalizing too much as some shampoos/LSPs just don't get along.



I too only use as strong a shampoo mix as necessary, and I don't find that a foamgun presoak compromises my LSPs. But that's with Griot's Car Wash, which seems mighty LSP-friendly.



Of course you don't want to leave the presoak on there forever and yeah, you oughta rinse off the shampoo as soon as you've finished taking advantage of it (i.e., "washed the area in question" ;) ).



Note that when I was doing that durability testing of KSG I used the foamgun/Griot's at every wash and presoaked as I felt necessary (think "nasty Ohio winter crap"), no problems at all, no stripping of the KSG.



IMO the occasionally necessary spot-claying (mild clay!) will do infinitely more damage to the LSP than any presoak, and I don't consider the clay to be a big deal either.



Anthrassat1.8T- IMO the only real advantage to the adjustable gun is that you can dial it up for rocker panels/wheels/etc. that are really dirty. If you just get your basic dilution figured out you shouldn't be missing much overall.
 
Accumulator, thanks for the input. After playing with it I think you are right. I generate a ton of foam with it preset at the 4oz setting. I actually removed the pin and drilled it out so now i'm probably close to the widest setting on the adjustable model. For kicks, I sent Gilmore an e-mail requesting a parts list and pricing to see if I could get a replacement bar. Guess what, they are sending me an entire assembly with the adjustable rod at NO COST. How's that for customer service. So now I have a completely updated unit for my $31 :) Can't beat that!!
 
Wow, that *is* great customer service :eek: Just think, they might've cost themselves the sale of a new foamgun by sending you (just) what you need.



Experiment with different dilutions, it sounds like you're using a *MUCH* stronger mix than I do. I mix about 5-6 ounces with enough water to make a gallon of shampoo concentrate and then I fill the foamgun with that. I usually use the weakest dilution setting for most stuff, so I'm not using a very strong mix most of the time.
 
Thanks Accumulator, I actually did dilute the mix similar to you. I'm not sure exactly what rate it's flowing but it did a fantastic job. I'll keep you posted on what I actually receive!!

No kidding, we went looking for a fan to replace ours that fried last September and they didnt have one in the store. Everything was gone. Damn seasonal crap.

UPDATE!! I realized I never updated this until the recent post. At any rate, Gilmour sent me the entire cap assembly complete with the adjustment rod at no cost. I absolutely love this gun!!! I've used it for all my washes and it really makes a difference. The only thing is I should have gone with the 1/2 gallon container but I'm going to try and source one so I have both options. If you don't have one of these, get one they will make life much easier. I'll post some pics of the setup.

Glad to hear that! Also glad to hear that Gilmour's customer service was so good.
 
Coupe I might be able to help you on the brass nozzle. There is a hard ware store I know about that deals in the really good of everything. I won't be able to check for a few days though.

I have one like the one you have only mine is about twice as long (maybe 6 inches) and adjusts from "Nil to wide open", solid brass, not for sale.
