Just got a new vac...

Since I've accrued more products than I know what to do with and don't want to get a new vehicle or trailer for detailing; I bit the bullet and bought this:

http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/4-Gallon-Vac/index.htm

Definitely a nice, well built machine! Great suction, right in line with the Shop-Vac 6.5hp/16gallon I was using. Only drawback is the limited accessories the vac comes with. One multi-purpose tip, 7ft. hose and dry filter. However, the compact travel size more than makes up for limited "toys" supplied.

***Shameless plug, if anyone is in need of a great Shop-Vac with detachable blower and is in the New Orleans area, contact me as I have one For Sale cheap!***

Enjoy

:bigups Yup seems like a great mobile tool. By the way there are TONS of accessories if you look around the vac area! I'm thinking of changing the 17/8 tube to a 1 3/4 for the micro kit.

I looked around for some tools, but the hom depot I went to was full empty bins... It also includes a reducer cup from 1 7/8 to 1 1/4, so I will be getting the micro kit when I find it...

I got a Ridgid vac too! It is a great machine. I also got some accessories for the car...you can also use ShopVac nozzles which fit the opening. I use the ShopVac car nozzle to good result.

Yes! Its a great vac.

I believe the filter is a wet filter... I still remove it when cleaning seats and carpets though since it gives me a bit more suction. You can also wash the filter out with water and let it air dry which has worked well for me.

I bought some accessory pack for it at home depot.. I think it was $20 or so. It came with a vac brush, that long pointed vacuum attachment (lol... I dont know the official name), some other misc stuff, and a smaller in diameter, but longer vacuum hose. If your going to use this vacuum all the time, I definitely recommend this hose. Its longer so you dont need to move the vac as much and its a whole lot more flexible.

:bass rock on!!!

The 4000 is the prokit model and comes with a wall mount, 2 hoses and a host of other stuff. The 4050 is the regular model that I got and has the basics. I'm happy, just got finished with some oxyclean on my front mats and it worked great.

As for the filter, I took it off. However, I would like to find a mesh/sponge filter to slide over the cage/ball area for added protection from larger stuff.

Thanks for the link, I'm planning on ordering some stuff.

The Woob -
Since you seem to know a lot about this vac. Do you think removing the diffuser could increase suction as the diffuser doesn't seem to make a notable difference?

By diffuser... do you mean the sound diffuser? or the sound supressor thing that plugs into the back?

If so, yes. It restricts air flow (slightly)... or you could say its creating back pressure, when you dont want any back pressure at all. I would say, unless you are trying to keep things quiet, definitely remove it.

Hmmm yes I remember a member saying that the Pro Model isn't worth the extra 20. You do get alot of goodies, but as detailers we need to get in the small areas with good suction. Oh yes you should remove the diffuser as it will allow you to use it as a blower!

Now will using a smaller cord improve suction?

Diffusor is off and mats are being cleaned as we speak!

The Woob, I don't think I would want to go to a smaller hose. I liked the 2.5" on my other vac as it ate everything in it's path. I'm thinking the 1 1/4" might get a jamb on larger stuff, slowing one down.

I have a few questions. Which one is wall-mountable...and if you use it as a blower, doesn't it blow dust and everything you vacuumed. Where can you buy the wall-mountable with/ accessories?

Carl

ProVac is mountable with some more accessories. You can get it at Home Depot. If you use the blower outside just make sure its clean or wet that area.
