I'm just kind of curious what kind of business everyones running or working for. I'm still pretty new to the site:nervous: but I'm begining to recognize a few of you and it seems like most people are either working part time or doing mobile detailing. I've also noticed quite a few of you seem to be hobbyist, though you definately have the experience and knowledge of proffesionals. I guess I'll start, I work at a limo & detailing business we have a fairly large shop over 3000 sf (and the overhead to match) We currentley have no full time employees (two part time drivers my uncle and myself). As of yet we're not advertising, as we're still working on expanding into other fields i.e. pdr, glass repair, spray in bedliners, ect. To date I've been working on refferals and a couple dealers (wich suck!) The pupose of this thread is to satisfy my curiosity about the industry not to rip off your business strategy!:nono I'm also curious about what others are charging. It seem to me you could charge a lot less as a mobile detailer though you'd be offering a convienance that may be more valuble

your contributions are much appreciated :thx

Mobile is the best of both worlds. You have less costs, and you can get away with charging maybe slightly more since you're mobile (a convienience to your customers). The down-side is having to work in any conditions, cold or hot, and dealing with whatever/whoever is around you for 5 or 6 hours at a time.

It depends on what part of the country your from to how a mobile business fits in, weather, traffic, parking, environment issue, etc. Many detailers start Mobile because it is more convenient for them. What the market will bare is what your rate is. It appears many detailers gravitate on the path of least resistence when stating out, “dealerships. Some of us have good dealership relations but that is “few. To receive the good business, “full time you have to market, advertise, sell, this takes skill, money and time.

Paperchaser, I don't know how you could have a mobile detailing biz in Anchorage, AK. It's hard enough here in the northern half of the lower 48 to make a living as a mobile guy with winter weather. (Not that I know from personal experience, but I'm presuming.)

thanks for the input, but the question was what kind of business you all have. It's about 3deg. outside and I'm sure as heck not going to try to work out there (that blows I worked construction all last winter). I'm estatic to have a nice shop to work in. I'm just trying to visulize the types of businesses your working at, as it has a direct reflection upon your statements (on other posts). i.e. ones times and procedures working outside will not be the same as mine working in a shop nor would mine be the same as a hobbyist's as I have to maintain a higher rate per man hour ratio.
