Just detailed engine bay, metal problems

On my Cobra, I noticed the aluminum bits get a wierd "spotty" look...I guess it's oxidation.

I don;t want the parts polished...just to look good. I take a foam brush and spray it with Cam2 Engine Detailer...then brush on the aluminum. Makes a big difference, and that way I can avoid spraying everything.

I've got a crusty look to the rough metal parts of my engine after several engine cleanings. I think it's remnant cleaner and water deposists, because if I scrub it with a brush it goes away.

dont use amoral on your enigne bay, it contains silicone which can result in a damaged 02 sensor, it has happened before. Use only a non silicone spray. You cant wash your vehicle at all not even the outisde living in an apartment? As for the metal I would try to flitz it, that stuff works great!! Good luck!

Are you referring to the tire foam or regular Armor All? As far as I am aware, the regular old Armor All Original is water based (hence why its so runny), I dont know about the tire foam as I've never used the stuff, but I always was told that AA original was water based.

This is a good thread, so what is everyone's APC of choice or what not for engine details, I'd like some ideas especially OTC products?

I'm curious some people spray down the whole engine compartment in dressing, what about belts, do you even touch those and are there areas you avoid?

Thanks

Now where is J dookie, I'd like to hear his answer to my ? :xyxthumbs

Same happened to me when I used Meguiars APC+ @ 10:1 - all the metal (rocker cover, intake manifold, top engine mount) went cloudy and bleached. I ended up using WD40 of all things with some wire wool and it returned some, but not all, of the shine.

As I have a nice new engine now, I may simply leave well alone - un-autopian perhaps but when it comes out again to go from 8 to 16 valves, the entire bay's being repainted and fully detailed anyway with new pipework etc etc.

Saying that, however, this is autopia so what're the chances of some "just cleaned my engine bay" pics in the not too distant future....? :D
