Just bought a viper and...

Is a PC the same thing as buffer? I heard that stuff will burn your paint and really mess your car up! Whats the differnece in the colored pads?



I know by hand will take longer by $200 is a lot of money for a buffer I mean I am still a student by money does not matter I meant it doesn't matter if one wax is 20 and the other is 35 as long as the 35 is better then the 20...If it is absolutely necessary I will order the PC for sure. Do you guys feel with hand labor its just not possible to do the job right?



also what brand quick detailing spray?



and will those 3 products get rid of the tiny swirls my car ended up getting?

The PC is an orbital buffer. The one that burns your paint (if used improperly) is a rotary polisher.

The pads are color-coated for different levels of aggressiveness.



You CAN do the job well by hand, but it will take a lot longer, and your arm will be REALLY tired afterward. It is very possible that you would give up before finishing because you would be too tired to move on.



There are lots of good detail sprays, and everyone has their preference. Just get one of them and see how you like it. I like 4* Ultimate Gloss Enhancer.



clay, AIO, or UPP will not remove swirls. You need a polish to do that, such as the SSR line I suggested in your PM.

After the polish, AIO + UPP would be a great combo.
 
Well basically the PC is a buffer/polisher. It is actually a dual action polisher or random orbital polisher. Anyway, I don't know if you can burn your paint with it but you'd have to be applying a lot of pressure and your OPM (orbits per minute) was set to really high. The difference in colored pads is basically its ability to "cut" into the finish I believe. These colors also vary and are interpreted a little differently from manufacturer to manufacturer.



IMHO, investing in a PC ($119 US: http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/...er.htm?L+coastest+mjnd7494ff7dcc7d+1111693796) is well worth the money and more importantly, your time. I too am a student but you can come up on the better end if you decide to do this to earn some extra cash once you're good enough and are confident with your automotive detailing skills.



Currently, the quick detailing spray I use is Meguiar's Quik Detailer.



As far as having swirl marks removed, I would try PB SSR1 and SSR2.5.

I suggest for you to try Klasse AIO + souveran. Souveran on red is just AMAZING!!! I used to be a zaino follower but after trying Pinnacle's products I never looked back. It may not be as durable but the results are worth it.

I find it hard to belive that anyone would make such comment and able to purchase a VIPER.

Haha...I didn't get a viper by wasting money for no reason...200 bucks i could throw towards something else like well actually true 200 won't get me squat...I will pick up the PC...yea the ugy was like I would clay it but its point less :s...anyways...I can't believe my new car got a few swirls I'll have this baby fixed up in no time...car will only get about 1500 miles a year (drive it for about 6 months a year). Have another car for my daily driver.
 
no the corvette is my other toy...I've always gotten that thing detailed...thing has no swirls but I pay that detailer good money to do that! end of that.

Regarding claying, today I did a new (build date 02/05) VW Phaeton (BLACK). It needed clay. In my experience, most new vehicles DO NEED CLAYING.



(BTW,what a magnificent luxocruiser - spectacular finish/paint! As nice as any car I've ever worked on...)



Here's a quick test: wet the finish, put your fingers in a 'sandwich baggie" and glide your fingertips over the surface. Odds are that you'll feel some grit bonded to the surface...



My vote is for the Klasse Twins (AIO and Klasse Sealant Glaze), but locally available Zaino may be your more practical option

Jimmy - Since I frequent VW stealerships, that is the exact opposite of what I have seen. Being silver or black, the ones around here have terrible OP.
