Just bought a new 09 Accord... Detail?

My wife and I just traded in our 2001 BMW for a new 2009 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan. The exterior is Royal Blue Pearl (think navy blue) and the interior is Gray leather. We've got a boy on the way in November, so we're shifting our vehicles towards practicality (though, I love our new Accord).



This is the first brand new car we've ever owned and I want to be sure that the paint and interior last as long as the vehicle itself will. When I sell it 10 years in the future, I want the buyer to double-check with me on the mileage due to how good it looks for its age. Unfortunately, I'm a bit out of date on my detailing product knowledge and what "the best" process is currently.



Here's what my old process was:

  1. Pinnacle Bodywash Shampoo
  2. Eimann Fabrik Powerwash+
  3. Pinnacle PolyClay (whole vehicle)
  4. Quick rinse and free-flow dry
  5. 3M SMR (yellow pad; as necessary)
  6. Klasse AIO x2 (white pad; painted surfaces, exterior glass/plastic)
  7. Klasse HGSG x2 (black pad; painted surfaces, exterior glass/plastic)
  8. Pinnacle Souveran x2 (by-hand; 1 coat, 24-hour cure, wash, final coat)
  9. Stoner's Invisible Glass (interior glass)
  10. Lexol Cleaner/Protectant (leather seats)
  11. 303 High Tech Fabric Guard (interior fabrics)
  12. Meguiar's Wheel Cleaner & Klasse AIO (wheels)
  13. Meguiar's Gold Class Endurance High Gloss (tires)



I'm assuming the above product list can be improved a bit. Also, the above process took a LONG time and I simply don't have 8 hours or so to dedicate to this. What should I change to increase time? What products should I change?



My goal is simple: long-term protection from the elements, brake-dust and bird bombs.

I'd skip the SMR for a more modern polish if the paint is perfect as well as the Klasse twins. While they are proven, there are better lookers that will save you more time. Do some reading, finding the perfect products is half the fun.



As to your original goal, you could wash monthly and use Turtle Wax every six month and you'd achieve it.

I figured the SMR isn't necessary (though, I'll do a more thorough inspection when I give it its first bath) at the moment.



As far as replacing the Klasse twins, I'm perfectly OK with that. I was thinking about Zaino. Thoughts on Zaino? (Hopefully this doesn't start a ridiculously heated discussion, like it used to a long while ago)



Turtle Wax and washing it every six months is simply not Autopian enough to me.

Actually, the Sedan does not come in the Belize Blue Pearl; that color is a little bit lighter than the Royal Blue Pearl. I'll get some decent pictures up so there's no more guessing. :2thumbs:

Well some polish might give it a bit of additional pop, so if you got the SMR, you might as well give it a go. As far as Zaino, not sure, some people really like it, but I live about 50 miles west of you and have had some pretty bad water spotting issues with it. I believe we are in a pretty significant acid rain area, so that is one thing to consider. I've had much better luck with M21 and M26 but I'm trying out some of the Optimum stuff right now. It all really depends on what you want too, the deep look or the super shiney look.

Ha, that means you need to compromise! Its one or the other, though some will tell you otherwise. I prefer paint that looks deep enough to swim in vs the laminated look.
 
I just purchased an 09 Accord myself. Burgandy with tan interior. I put a coat of Zaino Z5 on it the first day I got her home ( 2 weeks ago). I also this past weekend put a coat of DP max wax on it, I got it for $19.99 ON SALE, couldn't resist the price. I would say get a bottle of Z5 and maybe a nice nuba so you can compare looks. You will use both up anyway.
