Just a simple detail, somebody please help me.

Want to give my truck a good waxing. Its a 2000 and has been professionally detailed its hole life. I dont want to have to order stuff so I would have to be able to get it at the local Walmart or Autozone. Right now I have Meg Gold Class wax. I would like to polish before waxing. Also, how should I apply the wax and polish. Should I buff on and off??
 
Groebuck recently did a review of Meg's scratch X and Color X. That tempted me to try them out this weekend and I am very impressed with the results. The Color X is VERY underrated in my opinion. It is easy to work with and for a cheap, readily available product, it gives great results!
 
I don't know that AIO is available over the counter. I know you won't find it at WalMart or any auto part store.
 
Your selection of polishes may be a little limited at Walmart and Autozone but you should be able to find products to get the job done. Not sure what area you're in but some companies have local distributors so you may be able to find some products locally outside of Autozone/Walmart.

It sounds like you will be applying and removing products by hand so make sure you get some foam or microfiber applicators and I would suggest using microfiber to remove. You can get microfiber towels at walmart or Target but they aren't the best towels available.
 
Frank...If you look up Auto Body Supply places in the Yellow Pages, you will find Meguiar's Body Shop Pro line and probably 3M and other nicer brands.

If you are dong stuff by hand, sticking to either the Mother's Three Step system or Meguiar's Three step system with NXT replaceing step three is a good start. Either can be found in the Auto Zone and Wally World places you are looking to shop at. Grabbing some microfiber towels from AutoZone (Turtle Wax) would be a great start.
 
you can try meguiar's deep crystal # 2 polish. it wont hide any swirls but it will bring out athe beautiful color of your paint for waxing on top. can apply it by hand but try as thin as you can and dont let it sit too long before wiping it off. the longer you wait the harder it gets to remove. you can get this basicaly anywhere you got your gold class.

WHat does #2 do?
 
Don't forget about NXT Tech Wax. Great product @ a great value. I know there has been many discussions over how good it is, but it is one of the best I have used IMO.:)
 
I will be using a osculating (sorry for bad sp) buffer. Do I need to buff the wax and polish off? Also should I just throw away the MEg gold class?
 
If your going to throw away the Gold Class ....send it to me . It is a great wax also.
I might even give some to ebpcivic, I heard he likes it too
 
Can I use the gold class over the 3 step kits wax? Also do I need to buff the polish and wax on and off?
 
You can use the Gold Class instead of step 3 (it's just a wax topper).

Yes you need to buff the polish off before applying the wax.

A nice one step available over the counter is Mother's Carnauba Cleaner Wax (if you want carnauba). If you'd like a more "high tech" product, I'd say Mother's Reflections or Eagle One Wet Polish are 2 that are pretty fool proof. The Reflections can even be used in the sun. (not sure the heat limits, but on a 'getting warmer' purple car, I had no streaking or hard to remove residue.)

I think all three should be under $10.00 US, depending on where you shop.
 
The polish should be applied a little more virorously than just wiping on/off, especially depending on if it's abrasive or chemical in nature.
If you're using a one-step, you would be likely better off rubbing with a little pressure (not so hard as to push your car over, mind you), but enough to help get rid of the surface imperfections that the product you choose is capable of.
If you use a polish first, then the wax, the polish could be applied with a buffer, so as to save your arms. I usually wipe off the residue by hand, but there are bonnets that are meant to be used to remove polish/wax. The waxes I use are pretty easy to apply and remove, so I do this step usually all by hand (especially if it's a paste).

Just bought Meguiars Paint Cleaner, Polish, and NXT Tech Wax. I also have microfiber towels, Meguiars Gold Class, and buffer on standby. How should I use, apply, and remove all of this stuff. Also when will the buffer need to be used?
