Just a quickie!

it's not just any black, it has to be the Black Onyx.

Lexus said the darker black, so I assume Black Onyx for the IS300 would be different than the one on your 99 lexus GS400...

I have the black onyx, dont believe them they dont know what there talking about. I just this morning had to polish off some water spots from the damn sprinklers last night (forgot to cover it). No black showed up on any applicator or towel. Trust me man you have a clearcoat.

EVERY BLACK LEXUS IS BLACK ONYX!!! There is no other black... this Black GS400 is BLACK ONYX, and it is not mine, it is at the lot of the dealership i work at :) .

Ok,

so I got some Meg uire's Cleaner Wax and put it on the car with a white towel and well...

When I put it on the bumper, some BLACK paint did show up on the towel.

I tried the roof, and no black paint.

I tried the trunk and some black paint show up.

It's definitely black paint and not dirt. :)

So, i'm going crazy...sometimes it shows up sometimes it doesn't.

Maybe it's how hard i'm pressing....

So, I'm thinking it's can't be clearcoated right?

maybe, i'll try the test again tomorrow...

definitely not sure now...any other thoughts?

meow...

 That's weird you sure its paint on the towel? How hard u press wouldn't make a difference on a brand new car with clear coat. It wouldn't be clear coat in some areas and not in others. I would wash car then polish and look at towel then for paint pigment.

i have a 2001 Lexus GS and have been told my a couple lexus reps that there's no clearcoat on this thing. sorry for reviving a dead thread, but can anyone suggest what to do and use, assuming that there is no clearcoat?

had my car about 20 months and only now begin to care about detailing. a little late, i know

Everything that is clear coat safe can be used on non clear coat paint. It is not true the other way around. Any of the products discussed in the forums will work fine on a non clear coat finish.

I've been pretty fortunate to have some pictures taken of my car by some of our great photographers on our local 350z and G35 message board and I wanted to start repaying them somehow. I've always liked my friend Blackies G35 but being black and knowing how fast black gets dirty, it's never had the shine that only a black car can have. I ended up having a few free hours today so I told Blackie I could give him a mini detail which would just be a wash, clay and wax hence it only taking a few hours. Since I wasn't polishing the car, I knew I wouldn't get it looking as good as it would if it was polished but I figured it would still look really good as it hadn't had this much attention in a looong time. I forgot to take before pics but the paint was for sure tired and didn't have any "pop" to it at all. So the car was washed, clayed and then a coat of Meguiars Tech Wax 2.0 was used as it does a decent job of concealing minor swirling. Then I put a coat of Blackfire Midnight Sun. Here's the after pics, the reflection was AMAZING and for sure had it's "POP" back! I also waxed his wheels which REALLY brought them to life WAY MORE than I thought it would. We were very happy with the outcome considering it was a quickie detail.

There you have it. Not too bad for not even being polished.

I love Midnight Sun on Black.:drool5: I did a side by side test one time with it and was amazed at the amount of improvement achieved by a second coat. I usually put it over BFWD though since Midnight Sun won't last long, especially on a black car in summer. The surface of a black car in the sun can reach temps far higher than the melting point of pure carnauba wax. (180-187 degrees)
