There is no cure!
Joyriide Detailed: Porsche Cayman S

I was supposed to detail this car earlier this morning but could not get in contact with the owner, so i figured it was gonna be a no show. Owner called me midday to see if we could still get it done. He only wanted the exter, no engine, no interior, just paint work. Paint was a little gritty and contaminanted (nothing major) and swirling was present in the bright sun. Light correction was done to ensure high gloss and proper prep.

-Dawn Wash
-Claymagic Blue
-4000 grit sheet on rear hatch
-Meguiars Super Degreaser on tires, wells
-P21s Wheel Cleaner on wheels and exhaust

-Menzerna PO106ff via green foam pad @ 1500rpms
-Gold Class Wash
-Prepsol Wipedown
-Fk1 Hi Temp 1000p for protection

-Wenol Metal Polish on lip
-4000 grit sheet on tough spots of aluminum lip
-Optimum Hyper Compound on lip
-Mothers Billet polish on lip

-Meguiars HD 4:1 on wheel wells
-DP Tire Gloss on tires

Total detail time: 4 Hours, 15 minutes

Owner could not get over the smoothness only 4000grit fabric could leave, not even an agrressive claybar could replicate the results.

That car looks amazing...out of curiosity you said that it was slightly gritty, if so I would think clay would be able to take care of that, just wondering what made you decide to use 4K paper.

Overall the car was slightly gritty. The rear hatch though, was heavily contaminated like most cars, and I was getting too much marring from trying to get it out via clay.

The 4000 grit is not like a traditional wetsanding sheet with a paper backing, its like a cloth type material backing. This backing kinda lets the sheet contour a bit more over the paint unlike traditional sandpaper. The marring it leaves was far less than that of a red clamgic bar and far faster. You could clean up the marring from the 4000 grit with some 106ff and a PC. In this case, 106ff, via green pad on the rotory was more than sufficient.

I obtained a sample sheet from David Fermani this saturday and he taught me how to use it and its capabilities. This was the first detail I used it on. I plan on ordering a roll soon since you cannot find this high of grit anywhere, let alone with a fabric type backing.

Hmm interesting...so do you think it will replace clay in your detailing? whats the cost per roll, and how big is a roll?

It won't replace claying, as I like to always use a mild clay bar first to see if that will take care of the problem, but, in cases where a heavy grade is needed, I might swing into this. I'll probably use it a bit more and make a decision in about a month.

An entire roll is pretty expensive. One 4''x50' roll is at $170 bucks. You can buy a 12''x12'' sheet for about 12 bucks though.

Is this the right one, they have several ,
https://www.micro-surface.com/default.cfm?page_id=90&ID=3S4024&storeid=1
it says here that it is "Mirco Mesh 4000" but it is equivalent to 1500 grit sandpaper.
Or was it this one
https://www.micro-surface.com/default.cfm?page_id=90&ID=3A1224&storeid=1
the "Micro Mesh 12000", say that it is the finest grade sand paper they have
Thanks

that one!

It really is in NO way equal to 1500 grit sandpaper. Like I said, amrring left from it is less than that of a Claymagic red bar.

It has like a fabric back, unlike sandpaper which has a stiff paper backing. Good stuff.

Nice job!

That ultra fine cloth is da sheit eh ;) ;)

Did you remove the side chip protector (in front of the rear wheel well) if not, how did you remove the yellowing?

I love the mesh cloth.

Yea, I took off the clear film. Client requested ofcourse.

Thanks, After I get my car painted I might buy some 3k-4k sandpaper from that place and see how it works when i wetsand the car.(after I have hit it with the 1500-2500grit)

The 4000 grit mesh is not like sandpaper, so it will not smooth out 2000 grit scratches. I suck at describing it so my best advise is to buy a small sheet (like 20 bucks) and try it. Like I said, marring is very light and superficial, Im sure even a PC and 106ff could remove it so you have nothing to lose.

I've worked on a lot of cars over the years and never felt the need to wetsand, if you will, many of them...especially a car that seems to be in that condition...I feel that any time that you take something like sandpaper regardless of the grit its a very aggressive process and I reserve that for cars that are beat up pretty well...the car turned out nice and I"m glad the owner liked it

I couldn't have an E92 (IF I could afford one), that car would be my next choice :dnaughty

nice work :rockon
