... and only found 9 threads with Autoglym in them. People in Aussieland are raving about the stuff but it seems not to be so hot in here. Is it not worth all the hype? Or are there just better products on the market? Im a newbie in the detailing world and the range is HUGE! My supplier recommended Autoglym so I bought it, but if there is a range better then I would be a fool to keep paying out for it.

Any thoughts?

I have the Autoglym plastic and rubber restorer, the tar remover, the paint restorer, the showshine aerosol spray and the polish. I noticed today, when I went in to have a sticky beak at what else is available, that there is another couple of products I've not seen before in the range. Another intensive polish and a vinyl and leather protectant. Worth having a look at?

I haven't used most of what you've listed, but of the Autoglym stuff I have used, I've liked them!
The SRP (Super Resin Polish) is very nice. Pretty easy to use-hand or machine (Not intended for use in the sun, though.). Works well for light cob webbing. Beading lasts a fair bit too. I like the way it makes black look.
The Paint Renovator scared me. :eek: I could feel and hear the grittiness. By hand, it hazed the paint pretty quickly. (SRP cleared it up, though. :) ) Did remove some marring. Didn't fill me with enough confidence to use it too much, so I don't know what sort of limits it has.
The EGP (Extra Gloss Protection)is a bit tricky to apply evenly. I got some streaks, but they were easily removed with a QD made for use with acrylics. I have heard that a little EGP on the cloth will also help remove the streaks. Apparently, streaking is a sign of it being applied too heavily in areas. Does help boost gloss/durability.
The Bumper Care is really nice for textured trim. If you have some black door handles that have some wax staining, this will clean it up, darken it, and add some shine . Doesn't run after the next wash/rain either..
These are all that I have tried, but so far, I haven't come across a bad product! (Again, though, these are to be used on cool surfaces. If you work in the sun/on hot surfaces, these products probably won't work as well.)

Welcome to the site its a great place....After doing a search on Autoglym I find that its more prevalent in your area than here in the US....The company seems to be based in NZ.....I've not seen this line here in California...I've read about it over the net but I could not tell you one place here that has it..

That being said there are some great sponsors on this site that can ship products to you....however the cost of shipping would be a concern......


I would have a serious look at Poorboys World lineup who has a local supplier in your country. All his products are user friendly work well by hand or machine, can be used in the sun, and come in a good price range. Here is the contact in your area

Superb product :bb: make my trim and door handles look showroom state.
Their car shampoo is quite nice too, good lubricity but not much sud if you are into that sort of thing- pricy here so I don't use it anymore.
 
Thank you all for your very informative answers and suggestions. The bumper care is fantasic stuff I love the way the water beads after applied and how easy it is to use.

Beemerboy, on that site you found for me (thanks again, it's a great find) there are two "buffing machines". Are these the PC's that people talk about on here? I don't have any type of polishing machine, it's all done by hand, but I can see the results of machining and want to achieve the same on the cars I do. Unfortunately the only polishers I can find where I live are all the sander/polisher types and I don't think they are the right things?

Donna you could get a silimar machine in Ozzy, it's a Hitachi something, anyone can chime in?

Looks like they may have helped...A PC is really short for Porter Cable which is a sander, instead of using the Velcro sand paper you are using a Velcro foam pad.
There are many of these types of sanders on the market, I have a De Walt, they are called orbital sanders/buffers...For more professional results these really will help allot and I would highly recommend having one. The step up form there is a rotary buffer but those take some practice to perfect and also worth having.
 
You guys are fantastic! Thanks heaps, I found one in a local hardware. It's a little Makita, quite a bit lighter than the ones I've lifted before. Im still in the process of building my muscles! Although with all the hand polishing I've done you would think they would build up quickly. Only problem I might have with it is finding pads because the velcro bit is smaller too.

Your wlecome Donna and good luck with the orbital....as Dave said use the ^ inch pads and that will take care of it.

Chee, I haven't got it yet, so I can't remember what it was called. Im going in today (friday) to get it, YAY! Thanks Dave and Beemerboy, hopefully everything will work out right. It's definitely variable, too scared ATM to get something that might do damage.

There are more autopian/DC boutique products coming to australia all the time

It's my personal opinion from product testing of products purchased previously and from autosalon show in my home state recently that the quality of autoglym products has dropped a fair bit

The only product I like is Bodyshop 07B vinyl-plastic-rubber cleaner and protectant or strawberry jam as I call it
The samples I got from the auto salon I was very dissappointed with

bumper care didn't match the likes of Klasse VLRP and Clearkote or the 07B
It didn't revive the trim or bumpers much at all

Glass polish has a horrible smell and no match for SONUS and P21s polishing soap in cleaning ability and the reflectiveness of the glass.
I rate it about same as autosmart glass glow

Their paint polishes seem to need to be used together otherwise it's hard work and the results can't beat Menzerna
Microfibre cloths - I won't go there.

The supreme polish 1 litre is deerer than menzerna PO85RD of the same size by fifteen dollars and although better than the bodyshop polishes, still not value for money
Very hard to use, didn't provide the gloss or wetness of menzerna-sonus-clearkote

Thanks for the info SVR. It's funny what you were saying about the polishes having to be used together. I tried the Mother's Sealant thingy stuff! and then the EGP after that, didn't take my fancy at all. Anyhoo, I've still got lots of the stuff yet and when it's working, it's really working for me. So I'll keep using it 'til it runs out then I might try some of the other stuff out there.
