Just One More Coat
I find it interesting when I read write up's of detailers on other sites, the main focus of the write ups is about the paint. I know this is a major part of a complete detail but rarely do you see anyone take pics of the inside, engine or trunk.

There are plenty of details that I have done where these areas the most dramatic turn. To me detailing is the overall turn that you make on the car, not just one aspect.

While the paint is the first thing you tend to see I agree that it is not the whole thing. Detailing itself uses the word details...looking at each piece of the car and asking is that particular part as clean as its going to be. Nothing like having spotless paint and then opening the car and having dirty door jambs or dirt covered carpet.
 
Man I was just thinking about making a very similar post. While paint correction is an art form and is highly respectable, I feel like there should be more discussion and write ups on interior and even engines. I personally feel that clients appreciate a highly detailed interior just as much as the exterior. Just seems like it gets left out in most threads here.

Great minds think alike:D

I was just reading a write up on a BMW site on a M3 detail he posted 103 pics of the car and not one inside or talk about what was done. Maybe he didn't do the inside, I don't know

I also don't think it takes 103 pics to show the work that is done. Crap if I can get 5 or 6 before and after all together I've gone over boards IMO

I don't think I have taken 103 pics for all of my details. Unless I have a specefic issue to point out and share or some dramatic transformation I can't find the time to take all of those pics when it takes so long to just detail a car. Its not like I can wash the thing in five minutes.

I agree, especially about the interiors. I would say that for the majority of my clients, they care more about the interior than they do the exterior, honestly. It's where they spend the majority of their time, so having it clean is a big plus for them.
 
I spend as much time under the hood as on the paint, I like to see a clean engine bay.

I also like the look on peoples face when I raise the hood.

The average person will have their car washed once a week at the tunnel wash and not clean under the hood all the time they own it.

I was able to squeeze in enough time to wash my car at detail weekend and also washed under the hood while I was at it. (just a light dose of APC and a rinse with the pressure washer) It's the first time it's had any attention in a year so I need to get in there and do some scrubbing and waxing. Normally it is cleaned and dressed and I usually get the wow factor from people when I lift the hood, Not the same reaction as when you lift your hood though of course.
 
I love taking my wifes van (which usually stays pretty clean but with 2 young kids its impossible to keep it perfect) to the dealership to be serviced, or somewhere to get tires. The reaction is always the same when they pop the hood or put it on the lift. Of course I make sure and "accidently" leave some business cards somewhere easy to see lol. Ive counted them before and after and almost always have at least 1 missing :)

This same thing has bugged me for a while now. The polishing and waxing is only 2 steps when doing a detail. There is so much more involved in the process. I just sit back and laugh when people say they detailed their car when all they did was a wash and wax.
