It definitely left a mark, but there's a rubberized body side molding there for just such things. Didn't chip the paint, so that little abrasion will probably buff out!

This is why I have 2 Grand Prix's (the Beaters) and 2 Vettes ("No-Parking-Lots-EVER!")

But even the beaters are pretty nice cars!
 
My car has no side molding so i'm always nervous.We try to use the wifes suv when we go out,but some times she doesn't want to use up her gas.So i have no choice (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN):out:

I can appreciate that many of ya'll here have a deep down love for cars, I have to object to the "second largest investment" statement that has been made a few times here. For the vast majority a car is not an investment. They depreciate faster than just about anything.

Many people just view them as necessary and expensive tools needed for our lifestyle. Those that desire a spotless vehicle and have the expendable cash keep ya'll in business. Others are DIY folks. The rest (majority) are happy with things and value their time and money more than having a spotless car.

I am somewhere in the middle. I will take care and detail my Avalanche for the first year maybe two. Then it will taper off, as it gets more battle scars from off roading, the less I will worry about how it looks.

Different strokes for different folks.
 
I agree with above, its not a investment. but sure is the second largest item you purchased. some of us have passion, desire and dreams with cars. I take pride of keeping my ride clean. i jus feel its the right thing to do.

But because you decide you want to let your car go doesn't mean you can pull next to me and disrespect my car by opening your door on mine. I take time and effort to make my car look good and because that person doesn't care doesn't mean they have the right. You have to use common scents. I had some dope at my work awhile back when i had a different car( which was just as nice) back into me and when he got out of his car he looked at mine and said why did you have to buy such a nice car. You mean i should have bought a pc of crap so when he hit me it would have not mattered so much. :out:

That is true, no matter how far you park away from everybody there is always that one piece of crap that parks two inches away from your car.

Cars just aren't important to some people I guess, I can't really blame them (although that doesn't mean they have any right to ding me or whatever). My friends ask me why I don't watch or care about sports, I ask them why they aren't into cars. Different strokes for different folks.

You really hit the nail on the head. I am completely anal about keeping my rims clean.

Yesterday, I toook a road trip with my wife and 2 sons, and on the way home I was hit with three bird bombs. The second we walked in the door, I got my ONR at QD strength, a MF and went out to clean it off. My wife said "I wish you loved me as much as you love that car". I responded, if you got hit with three bird bombs, I would help you clean it off as well:D

While I do agree, I do know people who definitely care about/love their cars who don't wash them often or don't clean the wheels.

One of my customers has an 08' 550i, he rarely washes it, the wheels are always black, etc., but if it were to get a ding he would go nuts. At the same time, I have customers that wash their cars pretty frequently, but they have all sorts of dents and scratches and they couldn't care less.
 
Awhile back I detailed a fairly new Volvo S80 and when they picked it up, the guy said - "Wow, I didnt even know my wheels were painted that color!

And then if we go back quite a few years, it was considered a "badge of courage", so to speak, to have brake dusted wheels - it was supposed to show that you were really "working" your car hard, driving it hard...

Me, I want to keep that stuff from etching the clearcoat, so I keep it off all the cars all the time. I have found that an application of Zaino AIO (all in one), works really good at not letting the stuff stick as easily and it lasts a long time. I even put on a coat of their Clear Seal after the AIO and it really helped keep the dust off and from sticking..

Barry, I would have done exactly what you did with those bird bombs, and have done emergency clean up of stuff like that on trips forever.. I dont want that stuff also etching into my paint..

Funny thing is when i go and detail a car like that they always say :Can't you get them clean ? Most of the time it's too late and they get pitted beyond any repair.I'll get them as clean as i can but you can only do so much.

You're right, that brake dust is highly corrosive!!!
