It's Almost Love Bug Season Down Here...Help!

I live in the South and love bug season should soon be upon us down here. I really HATE these things.

Is there anything I can do to protect my car BEFORE they end up on it? My Dad once told me to spray Pam(yes, the cooking spray) on my front end before driving on the highway and whenever I got to where I was going, just use a hose to wash them off. That actually worked ok, but I wasn't too happy with the spray oil all over the front end of my car and I'm thinking that this can't be too good for my paint either.

Another friend told me to use Rain X on the front bumper and both mirrors and that that would basically not allow the bugs to stick. I haven't tried this method yet, but not sure if Rain X would be good for the paint either.

I did just wax the car with 1 coat of Autoglym HD wax and I could always go another coat or 2, if even just on the front end and mirrors.

It's just that the bumper can be COMPLETELY covered with these little buggers even if just after an hour of highway driving! I don't always have the time to catch them immediately after driving, so sometimes they could be there for a day or so. Unfortunately, I do have other responsibilities besides my car :)

What do you guys do and use for this problem? I know in FL this problem is worse than here in Louisiana.

I wouldn't hesitate to throw another coat or 2 of wax over it. I just had a client show up with an entire front end of bug guts... from LAST year. He never bothered cleaning them off, since winter approached. It's not an easy project, I assure you.

I use Collinite on the leading edges during the summer on my vehicles. And if the bug build up gets bad, I use PB's Bug Squash to help remove followed by another application of Collinite afterward.

I was thinking of trying Collinite this year for this very thing. But I believe I am going to test something else. Maybe an A/B test with Liquid Glass and Wolfgang DGPS just to see how they do.

A few coats of wax or sealant and clean them off as soon as possible. They will etch in very quickly and will require extensive polishing to remove them.

Had to deal with the love bugs on this ACR Viper

As soon as I saw the title, I came in here to recommend Collinite. Stuff is awesome! Besides the fact that it's cheap and lasts forever, it's pretty darn protective too. Throw a few coats of that on and be proactive about washing them off and you should be good to go.
