It`s pollen season - what do you guys do?

I HATE calif dusters......

Rinseless wash IMHO is the way to go for pollen. Pollen is very abrasive.

Looks nasty, would have never guessed pollen was so abrasive. Cool pics, thanks for the science lesson:)

Wash my DD yesterday - pollen killed any last trace of LSP and all upward facing surfaces felt like sandpaper. Can`t wait till pollen season is over so I can start my full Spring detail...

I also had no idea pollen was so abrasive. So, California Dusters are not a choice here. Currently I`m Ultima`s Waterless maybe once a week and simply can`t obsess over the pollen; just accepting it as an uncontrollable and inevitable part of owning the car.

*IS* pollen all that abrasive? Not arguing, I simply don`t know...just because it looks nasty under magnification that doesn`t mean it`s all that (functionally) abrasive on autopaint. I don`t make my washes any more gentle than usual (some regulars here are probably chuckling over that statement, but anyhow..) when the vehicle`s covered with pollen and it`s never bitten me.

IMO (based on first-hand experience ;) ) CCDs mar paint simply by their very nature since most *any* dirt on a vehicle will be somewhat abrasive and the lack of lubrication/encapsulation/etc. means there`s nothing to mitigate that. I`ve marred paint with a CCD using the most gentle techniques imaginable, even when all I was dusting off was a light film of "garage dust" (no, not compound/polish dust either ;) ). OTOH, a vehicle can be coated with *extremely* abrasive, nasty [stuff] but will still wash up marring-free as long as you go about it right...i.e., providing that lubrication/encapsulation/etc. to mitigate the abrasion.

If it hasn`t rained and the LSP is fresh, then pressure rinse and wipe down with a few damp towels and Uber @ quick detail ratio.

9/10 though just wait till I can do a proper 2 bucket.

Nothing but deal with it
Washed my car Saturday afternoon, looked great. Went to shower and leave for dinner (about 20 minutes total), walk car and it had a green haze. I was blown away what 20 minutes accumulated

On a related subject, there are also tree buds/blossoms that inflict damage to vehicle paint. Some just discolor the surface. like red maple buds when they get wet. Others. like horse chestnut buds, which have a very sticky & caustic yellow sap, will etch your paint. If you have trees or bushes with "bud problems" in your locale, let Autopians know. (Excluding the states of Colorado, Washington, & Oregon IF you know what I mean...just sayin`!)

Lonnie- I had, uhm...."tree droppings" (as differentiated from sap) etch through 476S back when I parked outside. Wonder how well FK1000P would protect against such stuff. It did OK back in `15 when I had to park the Tahoe under the same trees while they worked on the driveway, but that was *my* trees and I`m sure YMMV applies.

Accumulator:
Any idea what tree species the droppings were from???

Good question about "imperviousness" of FK1000P. Based on your experience with this wax/sealant hybrid, it may be worth adding to one`s arsenal of car-care LSPs. (Or so I keep telling myself)

I can understand WHY vehicle owners are coating or even clear wrapping their (expensive) vehicles these days to protect them from such natural fallout.

Lonnie- Nah, I don`t really know for sure what the FK1000P protected so well against. I do know it was directly under some oaks and maples (of unkown variety), but I live in a woods with literally countless trees contributing to the problem. The stormy weather probably had all of `em factoring in (while delaying the work that was keeping me out of my driveway!).

The stuff that cut right through 476S was from an Elm, don`t see too many of those these days. I cut that tree way back and try to avoid parking under it, but it`s RIGHT by both the driveway and the primary overhead door to the shop...sigh. Gotta stop under if for the door`s remote to work. No, not gonna cut it down ;)

EDIT: I *really* do think you oughta try the FK1000P. Heh heh, I quit bugging you about buying my M16 in part because I think the FK is simply a better product. And I still find it funny how its look grows on me...thought I`d utterly *HATE* it on the `93 Audi, but a year later I think it looks great. And [REPEAT how strangers keep coming up to me to compliment vehicles wearing FK1000P], never had anything on any vehicle garner so many compliments, not even close.

All I can say about FK1000p is it sheds contaminants like crazy. Stuff does not like sticking to it.

The FK on my hood was on it`s last legs, and being that the car hadn`t been clayed in two years, I figured it would be a good time to really "deep clean" and re-wax.

Hand-to-God, there was absolutely no contamination picked up by the clay. None. I couldn`t believe it, especially when we are talking 2 years.

I still have to do other areas of the car, so will get pictures when I do to document. Daily Driver, sits outside 24/7, has been left at ports in Louisiana and Texas for weeks at a time, parked everyday at work out in the elements.

I know I sound like a TV infomercial, but color me extremely impressed.

Hard as it is, I just ignore it for a couple of weeks. I keep saying, "it`s way better than the detritus of winter..."

nickclark08- Glad to hear the FK1000P is working so well for you, especially since I`m always raving about the stuff.

I`m not too surprised that it wasn`t contaminated, I redo mine without claying/etc. all the time. But yours goes through a lot more than my vehicles, and that`s a *long* time under those conditions.
