it looked easier on video

You got this Steve!!! I ripped the entire interior dash included out of my car when it had like 94 miles on it. When I put it all back together I only had like 10-50 screws left over ;). YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I find it amazing how many spare parts there are on cars. I don't understand why they have such a hard time reducing the weight of cars. My car loses a couple ounces every time I work on it.:rofl

One of my customers says "Everything looks easy when someone else is doing it." Just look how many people watch us detail only to go screw up their car trying to take care of something themselves.

Truth to be know, a quarter slid down the dash and into the defroster vent....Steve is in the process of retrieving it...... Only kidding steve!!

To tell you the truth Steve we've all been there...take out a couple of bolts...and a couple more...and maybe that too....and...what have I done!! :passout:

Steve, you are the man! :bow

everytime i have a minor project to fix on my 71, it quickly turns into while i'm at it major repair... inevitable i guess. think i woulda saved up the 1500 myself steve. good luck my man

On my Chevy van that the heater core leaked I opted for the 50 dollar fix (vs 500)of rerouting the hose and living without a heater.

Same thing when the AC went,I just had them cut the belt and live without air.

One of the many benefits of living in not too hot or cold climate !

I did however miss having the heater at night and was way to cold for my liking in the winter.

But If I had known the trouble it caused the mechanic and my schedule beforehand I would have not had the repair done on my last vans heater core!

I hope youve got it done Steve without too many screws left over!:D

steve you could of just loosend right side of dash taken a 2x4 and removed heater box i do this every day in my repair shop

Wow, definitely takes some patience for that one. I think after a couple dozen parts thrown across my garage I would have given up

oh man, now you tell me. thanks , but i really like taking out all the hidden screws and bolts so i can forget where they go upon re-assembly. still waiting for the wrong part they sent to be corrected. i think this is what they call a learning experience. :D

I must not be a real man because I sure as hell would NEVER attempt something like that. Major props, Steve!!!

You are a brave man. Probally a great time to clean the dash and protect it with Blackfire in those hard to reach places :D

just a final update: i was actually able to get everything put back together again and the truck actually started up. needless to say i was doing the hallelujah dance with the fact that it started at all.:excited: i was fortunate to have a friend who works in commercial hvac who stopped by to recharge the system for me using my equipment and after some adjustment, it works fine !!! other than some aggravation with autozone sending some wrong special order parts, the returns and purchase of new parts, and some quick connect fittings that weren't so quick connect :wall , everything went pretty well. i did have a handful of extra screws when i finished, but the dash hasn't fallen into my lap yet, so i'm good.:rockon the shop estimate for just replacing the a/c evaporator and accumulator was $1500.00 and i was able to replace those parts, plus the heater core, and the costs of some a/c tools for about $500.00 total, so i consider myself fortunate indeed. quite a learning experience. thanks for everyone's replies.:yourrock

Glad to hear ya made it through, did you use rockauto for sourcing parts?

And yes, I'm totally bumping this because A/c jobs are the toughest and most costly of any in auto repair.

i actually didn't know of rockauto when i made the repair, but have since used it and it is a great place for parts. sometimes, using a local supplier is more helpful for exchanging wrong/defective parts, but it's hard to beat rockauto's prices for sure.

I agree on that, I'm doing a full suspension overhaul soon. Local wants 650 a per strut, rock auto is around 300 a corner. Sometime's the savings is just too much to pass.

Btw ~ Don't ever buy a car with electronic suspension, they will rape you on $$$$.
