Issues with Megs Ultimate Compound...

I bought my bottle of Ultimate compound about a month and a half ago. I used it once and it's been inside since then. I went to use it tonight and it turned into very thin water like consistency. I went ahead and used it with a Festool wool pad which I picked up at a local wood working shop before they closed. I'm not sure how this pad is constructed but the fibers are loose and I used it with my Rigid 2610. This pad worked surprisingly well. It was about 99% shed free. The UC still seemed to work but it was a bit sloppy since it 's now so thin.
 
Update- I dropped a line to Megs customer service and they are going to send a new bottle out. I'm not sure how widespread this issue is but I checked the bottles on the shelf at 2 different WM and they were all watery. Hopefully Megs can figure out the issue since this really is a nice product.
 
I read a story somewhere where people were buying bottles of the stuff and transferring the compound/polish out to their own bottles. Then they would fill it up with something cheap like lotion and return the bottles.



Ofcourse the emloyees don't know any better and just put the product right back up on the shelf.
 
I just used it today on a 2003 Toyota Camry ( My Moms ), the car was never buffed until today using " Ultimate Compound " and i must say that I'm thrilled with the product. No issues at all with a PC or by hand. In the driveway under the hot sun with no Canopy.

there's a seal on the bottle and the employees should no better than to take it back without looking to see if it's been taken off or tampered with...
 
Yea, I'm sure all these minimum wage workers are really going above and beyond to make sure that nothing gets by.



Let's face it. There are "procedures" but **** happens. I'm not saying that this is what happened to the OP, just repeating a story I read.



Ive returned items without so much as a glance at the product. I'm sure its happened to everyone.
 
I think they did mixed with water, that's why you have to shake it. Most Meguiar product I've used, they mix it with water.

some will make an effort to look and some won't, that's why i always look to see if there is a seal on any product before i buy it. i dislike buying products without them because you don't know what has happened with it, and it keeps it fresher longer...

I assume he shook it. Sometimes this just happens. I have never heard or read an official answer to it though. How something just turns to liquid is beyond me?
 
I noticed the same thing with 1 bottle.



Here is my theory: the UC that is watery might have been exposed to too much heat at some point during processing or possibly shipping.



Here is why I say that. I have bought like 4 bottles of UC. I love the stuff. Even the watery consistency still works the same. Only 1 bottle was thin and watery. You can tell just by shaking it at the store before you buy it. I noticed with the watery thin batch, the bottles (unopened) seemed to be "bloated" for lack of a better term.



So, again just a guess...product is placed in the bottle and sealed at the factory. It gets exposed to too much heat at some point, like a pallet out in the sun all day or something. The heat affects the liquid, thinning it out and expanding/bloating the bottle.



So before you buy your next bottle of UC, shake it first and you'll know right away if it feels right. If it feels thin, turn the bottle sideways and see if it is bloated. In the end, it doesn't matter because the product works the same, you just gotta pay attention a bit more so it doesn't run off the pad when applying it. Again, I love the stuff. It works awesome and is only $8 OTC!



I would love to hear the Meg's chemists take on my theory, or anyone else's take for that matter.

I'm going to check my bottle when I get home... It was bought about 2 months ago, used it to polish out some light mounting scratches on my wheels and put away. I haven't touched it since.
 
My bottle was sealed when i purchased it. Some of the older members may remember a few years back Mothers Powerpolish had the same issue.
