Is this idea crazy?

My idea is this:

I plan on going and talking to a rather expensive golf club about a mile from my house. I am going to ask if they would like to offer car detailing as a service to their guests while they are out playing golf. The idea seems to good to me. It eliminates scheduling hassles of when and where. I'm guaranteed at least a car per day. Also, the customers tend to be well off and have upper end cars.

Has anyone else ever tried this or something like it?

Ya, you'll probably end up having to give them a % of the profit or something.

Also, a big thing golfing is going out to "get away from it all", and they might see it as turning away customers if they try to "sell" them other things when they just want to golf.

It could be a huge moneymaker, and hey, worst case scenario all they do is shut you down, so I'd definetly go for it. Too bad there are no decent country clubs within 10 miles of me, or I'd be doing the same thing.

Well most people usually do 9 holes, so time would definately be an issue.

Where do you get this from? Every country club I've ever been to does about 80% of their business doing 18 hole rounds. The 9 hole players come at 3 or 4 in the afternoon around here.

I live a mile away from a golf course that is part of a five-star hotel so I am hoping they would be interested in this.

tpgsr- If you have time could you please describe how this should be suggested to the country club?

Thanks for all the replies,

Chris

being in orange county this would be pretty good... since i'm not fully mobile i can't do it. i just do work at people's homes or they do drop offs here. but that sounds like a great idea if you can get it. let us know how it works out.

There are quite a few mobile detailers that detail at country clubs regulary. Your best bet would be to have at least two people performing the details as you would be able to flip cars much quicker. With only a one person operation you might run into time constraints as most full details will take anywhere from about 3-6 hours depending on the size and condition of vehicle. 18 holes of golf will take about 3.5-4 hours....so you may run into problems. I certainly don't think you would have trouble finding customers and referrals from this could be huge alone!! The club will probably want a percentage...maybe 10% or something like that...but you may be able to use their water and electric if you work it right. I've thought about doing the same thing and hire on a part time detailer for 2-3 days and service golf clubs in the area. With two guys you should be able to turn 5-6 full details per day or more if they are just wash & waxes and such. Could be huge, good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.

My friend told me I should do this, but like Silverline said I'm a one man show and it would take too long. Instead I think I will talk to them about putting my flyers inside and allowing me to put cards on cars ever once and a while. I bet flyers alone will give sales a huge boost.
