Is this detailing method overkill?

Thinking of using this comob of products on my 66 dodge charger (brite red base coat clear)

The paint is 8 years old and in real nice conditio nand only has some micro spider scratches from washing and detailing over the years.

I wish I could upload some pictures of the current paint but I keep getting an error when trying to upload jpgs.

Optimum polish

Klasse AIO or JW Prime strong

RMG

Opti seal

Souveran Cannuba

Are any of these step overkill? Looking for deep wet shine. This is a show car that stays in the garage mostly.

Thanks for your opinions.

It’s hard to say without any pic’s but maybe some clay before the polish and you’re good to go.

Here are a bunch of pictures. I used Klasse AIO and RMG only. I went to a car show today and in direct sun I saw spider scratches from washing over the last 8 years. I would call them minor but definitely want to get rid of them for a better shine. Also I have a PC but never used it. I always detailed by hand.

The pictures look good but dont show the spider and wash minor scratches. I will try to get pictures of exactly what I am trying to get out and maybe you can advise what pad/polish will be best with a PC.

Thanks

I'd rather do some additional finish-polishing/burnishing/jeweling and then just apply a single LSP or maybe the RMG then the LSP.

And a '66 b-body is a little large for something as short-lived as Souveran IMO, though I do think it'd look nice that way.

So you recommend just polish ( dont do a AIO) and then RMG and Souveran?

Will that give me the deepest shine without all the added cleaner and sealent?

How long will Cannuba last sitting in a garage? Throwing a coat of cannuba on it is pretty fast and easy. Dont even need to fire up the PC.

Thanks

I think what Accumulator is getting at is that achieving the deepest shine has much more to do with perfecting the paint, not applying layer upon layer of various AIO's, sealants and waxes. 90% of how well the paint will look will depend on how well you did during the polishing stages rather than the numerous products you want to coat the paint with.

You mentioned you were going to use Optimum Polish, what type of pads are you planning to use? Since you mentioned you had some micro spider webbing, at a bare minimum you will need a polishing pad such as the Lake Country White pad or possibly even the German Green Pad (not the green one Autogeek sells) to clean up the spider webbing. The smaller the pad, the more correction you will be able to do. Once you get the marring corrected, you will want to step down to a softer pad to burnish/jewel the paint. This step will give the paint a deep wet look even before you have applied a sealant or wax.

Once you get your paint perfected, then start looking at cleaners/AIO's/sealants/waxes. If you want to go the wax route, RMG will lay down a nice base for Souveran (or any wax for that matter). If you want to use a sealant, and oil based product like RMG is not a good idea. A sealant will not bond with it very well. When using a sealant, go with Jeff's Werkstatt Prime or Prime Strong then put the sealant on. If you want, you can put a wax on top of a sealant, just not the reverse order. Hope that helps.

Thanks Bert! I undrstand perfectly.

I think that I only would need to use a white pad. The car looks great just with just klasse AIO done by hand and no polish but want to try to get everything out of the paint I can.

Wish I could get the picture uploads to work. Even when I try to use a link to photobucket it says an administrator has to approve the post and does not show up.

The last picture shows what I am trying to get rid of. The pictures look great but with direct sun on the trunk I can see micro scratches which I want to get out. Will the whiite pad with a PC get this stuff out like in the last pictue or will I need to use an orange pad?

I white pad with Optimum Polish will improve those swirl marks but probably will not get rid of them, you will probably need Optimum Compound and an orange pad (remember, when dealing with a PC, the smaller the pad the more correction you will get).

I would hate for you to go out and buy some Optimum Compound and a few Orange pads only to find out you don't need them. Maybe something to try would be to pick a test spot, where the swirl marks are pretty obvious and try Optimum Polish and a white pad and see if you can correct the swirls. If so, go ahead and finish out the car. If not, you will need to get some Opt Compound and an Orange Pad or two then follow that with Opt Polish and a white pad or two. My guess is that you will need the orange pad and Opt Compound though.

Remember, you should do the least aggressive method first. Try the product again, with another slower pass. It may take out the marring. The old rule," Give it another pass"

Just my Opinion! :bigups

Yeah, that'd probably be sufficient.

Doing really good prep/polishing. The RMG might help, many people really like it.

Since doing really good prep is a lot harder/more time consuming than most people expect, I'd concentrate on that and not have a boatload of steps left to do afterwards (all that AIO/seal/wax/etc.). I'd rather spend the time polishing and waxing the doorjambs/etc. ;)

How long will Cannuba last sitting in a garage?

The wax will last indefinitely as long as the garage doesn't get too hot cold (and IME 100f isn't too hot and only freezing is too cold). It takes me a good *decade* to use up a tin of Meguiar's #16 and the last bit is always OK.

Wonder how you'd like Collinite 845 on it...that's a user-friendly wax that lasts a long time and looks good

Get a few more posts and you will be able to post pics without an admin. See http://www.autopia.org/forum/welcom...ew-members-can-t-see-your-post-look-here.html

Thanks Bert.

Will give it a try.

What products do you have on hand now? If you have the Opt Polish and a white pad or two I would give them a shot, maybe that will be enough and you won't need to order Opt Com and a orange pad or two. If you don't have the Opt Polish and white pad, when you order, you may want to consider ordering Opt Compound and a orange pad or two also so you don't have to make two orders and pay for shipping twice. This is dependent on how much shipping is of course. Odds are you will need the Orange Pad and Opt Compound though. If you don't need the Opt Compound and Orange pad this time, odds are you will eventually or on another car.

Thanks Bum and I see now my other picture posts are in the thread. Sorry for any duplication if any.

Bert,

I have optimum polish 1 orange, 1 white and 1 gray pad. I have klasse AIO, Prime strong, Zaino Z2 and Z5, Sovernan pinnacle cannuba, RMG, Turtle wax ice ( had to try it)

I am reading that Optimum polish is not that friendly using a PC. Wonder if I should try the Pinnacle polishes or the Menderza polishes instead?

When I polish even if my paint is real clean do I need to clay again? The clay strips anthing that I have on the paint off?

Thanks Again
