Is this a good start?

I'm new to the whole car detailing scene but it's definitely something I am willing to put time and effort in to learning about. I've been spending some time doing some reading on the forum and just trying to absorb all the information I can.



I'd like to generalize and confirm the exterior detailing process as well as get some confirmation on some of the products I've ordered.



Exterior Detailing

-Wash & Dry

-Claybar

-Wash & Dry

-Spot Polish/Compound - where necessary

-Pre-wax cleaner

-Sealer/Glaze

-Carnauba Wax

-Buff



Does that sound about right?



I'd like to try to learn as much as I can by hand to avoid doing any damage and eventually I would like to purchase myself a PC 7424.



I currently own McGuire's Gold Class Car Wash, McGuire's Professional Claybar, Zymol Cream Wax, and microfiber towels which should be decent for now.



These are the products that I have ordered,

-Handjobber Kit w/ yellow, orange, white, and black pad

-Blue foam polishing applicator/Yellow sealant & carnauba applicator

-Optimum Polish

-Victoria Deep Cleanse

-Victoria Concours Red Carnauba Wax

-Victoria Quick Detail

-Cookie Monster Buffing Towel



Other products that I would like to look in to in the near future are Klasse All-In-One and Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze.



Any suggestions or feedback is greatly appreciated.

any words of wisdom?



i just received the products i ordered am i'm looking forward to using the optimum polish with the handjobber kit. i'm going to start with the white polishing pad and work my way up to the orange mild cutting pad or the yellow cutting pad if necessary to spot treat a few area on my car. any suggestions on techniques used would be much appreciated.

First of all, nice jetta.



Start with the white pad and if that doesn't work then step up to the orange. After claybarring you don't really need to wash again. The lube/qd used normally cleans up pretty good. Good luck doin everything by hand. I think you'll look into getting a pc/udm very soon.
 
Congrats on getting the detailing bug! Oh, and those wheels look great on your jetta!



I guess I'll be the one to give you some not-so-great news-



Chances are that the clearcoat on your VW is super-hard. You're probably not going to be able to touch any imperfections in your finish by hand. Heck, most will attest here that even using a PC7424 is a chore. Especially since the only polish you have is a fairly light cutting polish. You can try it, but don't be surprised, or disappointed, when you realize that you're not really changing the finish...at all.



No need to wash/dry -> clay -> wash/dray. I mean, you CAN, but it's a little more of a timesaver to simply wipe off any lube w/ a nice microfiber after you get done claying a panel.
