Is there a way or product to do this????

I sprayed VHT niteshades about 6 months ago on my car. I think it looks horrible. I tried using mineral spirits to remove it with NO LUCK!!! Id like to know what is going on LOL. How come I cant remove this simple tinted paint? Anyone have any suggestions. Some guy who works on returning old headlights etc to new told me hed charge me 200 bucks to remove the stuff... I dont understand why or how it could be a difficult task. Please help

Tape off the paint around the headlights. 1000 grit wetsand the niteshade completely off. Move to 2000 grit to remove the 1000 grit sanding marks in the plastic. Compound by hand, PC/spot pad, or rotary with a heavy cut compound to knock out the 2000 grit marks. Finish with Meguiar's PlastX, top with a long-lasting sealant.



I'd charge 50-100 for that job, probably more towards 100 (mustang headlights are a pain). It's not that hard but there is some risk of burning the paint around the lights if not taped off properly.

thanks timmah...would u recommend 600-800 grit if the stuffs layered on there somehwta thick and its baked on good too?

oh and its the tails not the headlights, i doubt it makes a difference.

Do you have a CTSV? Where did you spray niteshades on a V?

You could start with 600 - but I'd go with 1000, if you use 600 you're going to have to finish up with 1000 and 2000 grit anyways, and you'll be removing more material for no real reason.

yes i have a cts-v....i put it on the taillights/3rd bk lt/rvs lights but its not of good enough quality.

now that you're double posting I am not quite sure where to put this but since this thread has more replies than the other here goes. As the others said, and I said in your other post Wet Sanding is probably your best option. I started sanding.....1000 did not work....600 worked...400 worked best.....Stuff is thick!!! Anyways the red finish under the sanding looks really scuffed up....am i really going to be able to get that back the luster red nice and clear and shiny???? Go 600-1000-2000 and then polish, I've done it before and I guarantee it'll work fast with a rotary, it's doable by hand or pc it just takes longer. It'll look wrecked before you start to polish, plus make sure you got *everything* out with the 2000 and there are no deeper marks remaining.

from what I have read mineral spirits will take off nightshades... have you tried a magic eraser??

NOW I have some water / condensation in my taillights....best way to remove???
