Is there a finer polish for use with the PC than 3M SMR?

I just wish I could recall where I got the list from.

Seems as if the second list is the one with the stronger products first and the weaker down the bottom. I will just make one list with the two list's combined the next time I post this info.

I can tell you that 3m FI II can leave a haze that is easily removed with Pinnacle Cleansing Lotion on a white CMA pad. This past weekend I tried the Meguires #9 on a yellow pad and had to follow up with the Pinnacle again. Maybe due to the yellow pad being a bit aggressive??? I think that the pad and the way you use your PC can have a big effect on the out come. Some people run the PC at 3.5, some at 6. Some people like white pads with a lot of pressure, some like yellow with very little. It's a matter of finding out what works best for YOU. Plus, the experiments are half the fun!

Well, my car definitely didn't like the PPCL/white pad combo. I usually run my PC (with either the white pad or yellow pad) at four and then boost the speed to five as the polish begins to buff out.

I realize that experimenting is half the fun, but there's only so much experimenting I'm willing to do on a $45,000 car. It's great to have the board so us detailing nuts can share our successes and failures. As for me...I think the white pad/SMR/PC combo has produced the best results thus far on my 'Vette.

Hey Schwa - Have you notice that you get more hazing if you polish with the PC at a low speed and work your way up or if you polish at a high speed and work your way down.

I have found if you work the polish in at a slightly lower speed and work your way up on the two final passes, hazing shouldn't be a problem.

Some people have found the same results the other way ... I can't figure how this could be possible. It must be the way different people use the PC.

Joed1228, I find that I get less hazing if I start at a lower speed and work to a higher speed. I usually end up at a speed of 5 on the PC before I wipe the residue off with an MF. FWIW, the hazing I see is very, very, VERY minor.

Alan, thanks for suggesting the Griot's polishes. I haven't heard too much about them here (the little bit that I have read has been either negative or neutral), but I'd be interested to see how they might compare to my old standby, the 3M #39009.
