is the PC Right for my car?

reading so much about the PC 7424... and in the Articles section it says it's basically only for flat sections such as the Hood... I have Vents in my hood, front bumper, rear bumper... side moldings and skirts, wing... and this all adds up to be alot of Curves... i've got a "sears" 6" buffer that i attempted to use... i was only really able to use it on a portion of the hood, and 1/2 of the doors.



We are not able to angle the PC to get into smaller areas and things like this?

How about trunk, roof, rear quarter panels, etc? PC is awesome. Most of the pads are usually pretty flexible, so as long as you know how to use it, it should help out a lot.
 
Yes, you can use it pretty much anywhere.



You might have trouble getting under your wing though, depending on how high it is.
 
You can also get 4" pads for the PC.

Yeah, between using 4" pads and the edges of larger pads (the overhanging part of the pad can often fit into tight spots) you can do most areas with a PC. Much as I prefer the Cyclo, on some vehicles I use the PC for just this reason.
 
Do yourself a favor. Take that crappy Sears buffer (I bought one too before I knew any better so I have the right to call it crappy), find the receipt, and go get your money back. Then drive to Lowe's or somewhere and buy a PC 7336 right off the shelf. Same tool as the 7424, but with 6" counterweight. It will make the Sears buffer look like the toy that it is. Then order some Propel pads and go to town!
 
In my experience *every* plate/pad combo works best with the 6" counterweight. I suspect that the weights are designed for use with sanding systems that all weigh less than our plate/pad combos.
 
I only say 7336 because you can buy it at your local Lowe's or Home Depot for around $99 dollars, whereas they might not have the 7424 on the shelf. It just saves shipping and time, and the 6" counterweight makes no difference. It's not a drawback at all. It's the same exact machine, and if you want a 5" counterweight then order one from exceldetail or autopia for like $2.
 
Yeah, just get whichever one is cheapest and change the counterweight if you want to, they're inexpensive and easy to change. I have both models and they're absolutely identical except for the weight. Now that I have fitted both with the 6" weight they *are* identical, and I can't even remember which one came with which weight any more.

The little bit of weight difference from the different counterweight is not something you'll notice, it's not like the difference is several ounces or anything like that. The slightly larger 6" weight just dampens the vibrations a bit better. We say "5" weight" and "6" weight" because of the *size of backing plate* they're made to compliment, but they're both little things that weigh a few ounces.



There is absolutely no way to tell the two models apart without taking off the backing plates and looking at the weights. The weights are so similar that they have to stamp "use with 5" pads only", or something like that, on them so you can tell them apart.

thanks for all the info... i'm going to start looking at what pads/backing plates... and all that to go with.



anything specific i should be looking at for the 7336 then?
