Is the forum working?

Can't seem to post new thread in the click & brag section. Perhaps a mod will ultimately move this post and retitle it "My 1st Detail: Porsche 993 C4S (my car)"

Anyway, this was my 1st detail. My car's finish was worn out. I had given up. No wax for 4 years. Was washing it in the local drive through automatic car wash. Was about ready to give up and do a repaint.

Then I found autopia and Meguiars. I read tons, I ordered products, I bought a PC, I experimented, I compared products and results side-by-side, I worked, reworked, and reworked some more. Here's my results:

How'd I do?

Decent reflection shot - pardon the messy garage.

Here's a couple more pictures (I hope).

I also did my wife's 2007 Chevy Avalanche. It looks decent too. It didn't need much work, and I didn't spend NEARLY as much effort.

The three pics from your last post look good to me, especially for a 1st detail. Pics on the first post are redX'ed.

Nice car. :)

Thanks for the props. I hope I never spend as much time again on a single car. At least now I have my process down.

Looks amazing...what was your process.

It was a 3 week process, as I bought more and more stuff to help out.

Ultimately, after many attempts I did the following:

1) Wash with car wash soap.

2) Meguiar's clay bar kit for entire car.

3) Meguiar's ScratchX for a couple of isolated deeper scratches.

4) Hi-temp Extreme Cut on the worst panels, specifically the hood. This product worked very well and completely hazed the paint.

5) Meguiar's #83 DACP - this removed the haze, but left minor scratches.

6) Meguiar's #80 - this removed virtually all remaining scratches.

7) Off-brand pure polish - brought out nice gloss. No remaining fixable flaws (rock chips and pitting still exists on front of car though)

8) Mequiar's #20 Polymer sealant. Not a lot of props out there for #20, but after trying a dozen different products, it produced the deepest, blackest, wettest looking paint.

9) Souveran Paste wax. This actually lightened the car a little, but took the car from looking deep black to making it look like black chrome. It simply shines.

12 hours between steps 8 and 9. Step 3 by hand. Steps 4, 5, 6 and 7 by PC with appropriate pads. 4" CCS pads were used. These really increased the power and effectiveness of the PC. Steps 8 and 9 by hand. Could have been done by PC of course, but I prefer doing LSP's by hand.
