Is something wrong with my OS?

Ive been using DWG under a layer of OCW lately and love the gloss and slickness of OCW. I dont QD much but the few times I do, the mf just glides over it.

Anyways, OS was one of the first non otc products I purchased and I havent used it until now. Car was washed with ONR and as usual there was noticeable slickness left after the wash. I then applied OS with an mf applicator. I was probably applying too much and I might have been rubbing too much also. I was rubbing fast enough to create a static charge on my bumpers. I know I applied too much because I had to go back and rub it again. I only used about one spritz per panel but it wasnt from the original bottle of OS so this spritzer may have released more.

My problem is though that the car was not slick at all. I rub with the back of my finger and usually it just slides right on. My skin was actually kind of grabbing it. I have heard of OS getting noticeably slicker after letting it sit for some time. I figured overnight was long enough. So before I went to work I tried it again and the same thing happened. No difference at all.

Now comes to today. I tried QDing but it just wasnt working. The MF grabbed at the paint so much that I just gave up and would rather just wait till it gets a little warmer to ONR it.

I like the looks and ease of application but the slickness was just horrible. Is this normal? Did I get a bad batch?

Putting OS over OCW maybe your problem. How long has OCW been on before applying OS?

Could be....It was put on maybe 2 weeks prior. I didnt mention though that the first car i tried OS on was my fathers car the day before. I dont know if its the OCW because I first did the whole car with JW prime, than the dwg and than finally os. It was the same thing. I just didnt give it much thought until I used it on mine. So he had the same problem with no carnauba content on the car since im sure the prime would have cleaned any off

I have only used the Zaino WOWA product but was also very disappointed the first time I used it...except it turned out that I wasn't applying enough. I had been so scared by all the hype about putting too much on that I really wasn't getting a coating, and when I put enough on it was much better. However, I found it to be much less slick and to bead somewhat less than Z-2Pro, Z-5, or Z-8.

Two weeks should have been long enough. The only thing I can think of, is that you used a different sprayer and it may have been releasing too much product. The sprayers that come with OS is not the best, but it does give a super fine mist. Mine clogged and Autopia sent me 2 extra at no charge, not even shipping.

Yea maybe I was using too much cause like I said, there were visible spots of os that I had to go over. But would using too much affect slickness?

How's everyone elses experience with os? Is it pretty slick?

There must be alot of solvent in OS cause it flashes so quickly. It maybe mixing with the OCW under it. That's the reason I like to use sealants on clean paint and use waxes as LSP.

Yea that makes sense except the only thing under the os on my dads car was dwg and prime. Had the same effect

I've used DWG under OS before with no problems. I still think you may have used too much OS.

Thanks legacy. I'm going to try it again soon since its not going to rain for a while. This time I'm going to try it with a foam applicator and try to apply less. So how is slickness?

Dsoto87, there's nothing wrong with your application or method with OS.

OS just doesn't have the level of slickness like other products. It's just normal. Normally I would wipe the whole car again with a damp MF cloth after applying OS to the whole car. This way I notice the surface feel a bit slicker.

Maybe in future if Optimum would come out with an OS 2.0 or something? Hehe, then I wish tht they would tweak it to add more slickness and gloss.

Yea I never heard people touting OS for its slickness but should it really be this grabby? I mean it really is like 0 slickness. If you completely stripped the car, thats about where its at. Dont get me wrong, I love the looks and it seems to bead decently I just cant believe how UNslick it is.

If the paint felt slick before OS sure should not make it feel less slick, I think it's quite a slick product. I also used a bit too much the first times I tried OS, and got some streaks. But now I know how little you really need to use.

Yes it does feel grabby. I dunno why too? It feels like just as you described. To me PoliSeal seems to feel much slicker than OS. Like I said, I wipe it down again with a damp MF, it does makes it feels slick a bit. Like there's a layer a fresh wax or sealant just applied. But not slick as Wolfgang or M21 kind of slickness. And yes it does seem to protect, bead and sheet water like any other products. Maybe Optimum could tweak the OS to add more slickness.

I have a couple of layers of OS applied thinly with a foam applicator on a Silver Metallic Lexus. Looks fantastic and it's fairly slick. Maybe it's because of the few layers?

To give the slickness it sometimes lacks apply OS then before it has fully cured within half an hour lightly spritz a microfibre pad with OCW and very briskly rub in and buff up for really long lasting finish :xyxthumbs

In regards to any product-if it beads fine then who really cares about slickness. Most products are slick until they've been washed a time of two. If it washes off why care about it to begin with?

I just kinda of wanted to get away from using ocw since i like the look os gives. OCW has a carnauba look but for some reason I like reflection of a sealant more on my darker silver.

I care about slickness. Why? I dont have an answer. I just like to feel the paint and feel the buttery softness. Yes you can call me crazy. Besides, i reapply something almost everytime i wash so it never really gets a chance to degrade
