Is rubbing alcohol on a qtip OK to use on paint before doing a few touchups?

Accumulator I agree about the #7. It doesnt seem to work well on my black car. I'm planning on picking up some Meguiars deep crystal polish. Will that be better?

NO, it's just a "cheaper"/crappier version of the M07. Both are functionally nonabrasive. The DC#2 Polish would be a waste of money.

Instead of using the cleaner wax I'm planning on buying the deep crystal cleaner.

I'd get their Ultimate Polish, or Scratch-X v2.0 instead. Or even Color-X. The DC#1 Cleaner is a basically nonabrasive paint cleaner and I don't see that doing anything for you.

I already have the deep crystal carnuba.

Yuck..but you have it so, well...OK. NXT would be better and will hide very minor stuff.

So do you think Meguiars deep crystal cleaner followed by meguiars deep crystal polish, followed by meguiars deep carnuba is a decent plan?

Not in your case. I'd use the UC, follow with a milder product like the Ultimate Polish or Scratch-X (but let the UC do 99.999% of the work) and then wax it.

Eh, I'm no expert on OTC stuff but the preceding "don't buy that!" advice is solid.

You are right about the touch up paint. I wish I never tried to apply any touch up paint at all. One day I will get the whole car painted but not soon because money is tight. As bad as my car sounds I had a neighbor ask me if I bought it new. The car is 10 years old so it cant look too horrible if my neighbor thought it might be new.

That's a good example of the diff between Autopia and the Real World ;)

Use the UC..you know it's a PIA but you also know it does do something. Then follow up with something milder and then just wax it and live with it, knowing that it looks better and that most people will think it looks swell.

OK Accumulator based on not wanting to keep spending a bunch more money will this be OK?

1. Meguiars ultimate compound (I bought that yesterday)

2. Meguiars ultimate polish (I can get that on Monday)

3. Maguiars deep carnuba wax (I know you dont like but I already bought it)

Accumulator one last question about the Meguiar's polishes. I was going to get the Deep Crystal polish. You suggested the Ultimate Polish because it has abrasives. Would we need the polish to have abrasives after I use already the Meguiars Ultimate Compound? I assume the Ultimate Compound already has a lot of abrasives.

Opinions/experiences/situations differ. Sometimes people are satisfied with how the UC finishes out, othe times people want/need to use a milder (abrasive) polish as a follow-up.

OK I can understand that but will Ultimate Polish still polish to a shine despite the abrasives? I do everything by hand if that matters in what products are the best for me to choose. I will pick up the polish on Monday. :)
