I was looking around even though i have the mothers and pondered what was better?? I don't see any reviews on the mothers system, so which is better or they both the same?

the 3 steps are good but there are better combo's you could do

1)Mothers PowerPolish

2)Megs ColorX

3)Poorboys EX/ Megs #26 or sealant of choice

I have used the Megs 3 step system and found it is quite nice for the money invested.

I decided that i would replace the wax (step3) with NXT, and skip step 2. Step 2 is a glaze, or a gloss enhancing polish, whatever, it contains no abrasives, and isnt meant to clean the paint as is step 1.

I really like step 1. For 5 bucks, i use it alot when i want to switch my last step product-wax or sealant.

I would get a clay bar too. You will be amazed and very happy with the smoothness of your finish.

If you have any doubts what to do or how to use anything, the people here are really helpful, and for the most part, create the most pleasant formum i have been on in a long time.

You can usually build a better 3 step product using available meguiar's pro (I mainly stick to their mirror glaze line) or some of the new Mother's stuff (FX and Reflections line.)

But as a consumer the 3 step process is simple, inexpensive (compared to how much dough most autopians spend) and produces acceptable results to the average consumer.

As for clay bars, if I had a choice between the two, Mother's. Meguiar's clay bars generally just suck. I used the C-2000 overspray clay and it worked at making the surface smooth but it was a little PIA because of the sticky residue it left behind for being well such a sticky bar.

If you can find clay magic, thats a good bar too (the blue one, the red bar may be overkill.)

I prefer the Mother's yellow clay bar...it doesn't leave residue behind.

Both Mother's and Meg's 3-step are very good...I'd say about equal.

But if you want the best bang-for-your-bucks and ease of use, you can't beat the new Mothers FX and Reflections range. Equal to many of the boutique products used around here at a fraction of the cost.

That might have been the case with the old Megs clay bars but not anymore. The pro over spray clay is now a blue bar and looks and feels and performs exactly like the Clay Magic bar. Side by side I can't tell one from the other.

I was surpised to see Reflections at PepBoys for $17.99. I wonder if the PepBoys market is going to support a pricey wax.

I like Mothers sealer & glaze (step two) better than any equivalent made by Meguiar's. It performs just as well as Meguiar's #7, but is MUCH easier to use.

In terms of step one, the Mothers product isn't anything to write home about, but their new product, PowerPolish is an excellent product. The closest Meguiar's equivalent would be #9. Usually, Meguiar's #9 or Mothers PowerPolish can be used in lieu of steps 1 & 2.

On days when no cleaning is required, just use either step 2 followed by your LSP, or just use your LSP all by itself.

For the LSP, I'm a big fan of Mothers Reflections TopCoat and Meguiar's #26. Each of these products are very easy to use and leave a very nice shine. Both of these products are definitely a significant step up from the 'step 3' wax of their respective product lines.

Just joking.

Back in the day i used Mothers pre-wax cleaner on most oxidized surfaces. Don't use it much anymore but would like to know more about it. Such as does it leave a clean surface? Is it chemical or abrasive or both etc.

I do have my own thoughts but would like to know others. Don't hear about it much on here.

I'd say that Mother's CG would edge out the similarly matched meg's 3 step, but only because it seems to be slightly more refined. In general both systems (I am a veteren of both) are about equal in content and results.

If you REALLY want to tip the scale and see a more tangible result, then I'd have to recommend the following:

1. PH Balance Wash

1a.Clay...but it could be skipped if your paint is very good

2. Your choice of megs or mother's paint cleaner. I strongly recommend Gliptone's Pro Buff Paint cleaner. It is more active than Mother's or Megs, and it possibly may be the best pre wax cleaner on the market.

3. Mother's Polish.

4. P21S/S100.

No offense to Mother's, but I feel the combo above, mated with P21S will bring a deeper, more vibrant result without requiring as much of a build up of wax as opposed to the Mother's or Meg's low content carnauba last step.

During your travels, you may want to research the various polish alternatives and one or two random orbital / "pc" buffing hand machines in order to expand the capability of your paint in obtaining a nicer finish. Take your time, and experiment as it fits your routine.

I feel the same. I do have a couple of bottles of #7 that I'll use up, but I've done a side-by-side with the Sealer Glaze and they looked the same, except the #7 is 10x as hard to use. The only time I'd say #7 has the edge is on a s/s paint that is dull.

#9 is very mild. I've been doing trials with PowerPolish and have found it to be able to remove serious swirls with a yellow pad in two passes. With a green pad it polishes up like a finishing polish and leaves a great gloss.

PowerPolish is the most 'pad dependant' polish I've ever used. It's amazing.

salty, I've used it a few times. It's very mild but works well on an above-average surface. Leaves the surface squeeky clean. If its badly oxidised it will require something stronger.

Basically, it a good cleaner to be used six-monthly on a decent surface before waxing. I think it might be just a chemical cleaner.

If you want more info about it, go a post a question over at Mothers and Forrest will answer you.

lbls1,

Is the Gliptone Pro Buff cleaner abrasive at all? Or is it a chemical cleaner only?

Have you ever compared it to P21S Paintwork Cleansing Lotion, or the Sonus Paintwork Cleanser? If so, how did it compare?

Thanks!
