Is it worth getting foam pads AND Meg's Microfiber DA system?

Bob, I did the same thing you did, its ok, you have the desire to make that car look like new, but, you are giving a lot more than is expected. Just remember, most regular folks will notice a clean, good smelling interior over a flawless paint.
 
that is interesting TOGWT, I find that microfibre finishes superbly, not one spot of marring on modern paint and a light cut to virtual finishing foam quality finish. found it to be a bit too strong for some acrylic paint today though



whether its MF cutting or polishing pad from optimum, I've yet to encounter a poor finish from them.

with my fathers MG ZT saloon that he got from melbourne australia recently, I reduced the orange peel by a fair amount with a velvet pad and rotary and that left no haze or marring, then I used MF cutting pad and polishing pad with Dynabrade 61375 at speed 6 down to 3 1/2 on my makita rotary and found them to leave a marr free glossy finish that is pretty damn close to a finishing pad or a light polishing pad. only gain I could get beyond that with my 3mm orbit throw orbital polisher and either an ivory pad, black or gold pad was a fraction of colour and depth. nothing really big



they definately blow wool and surbufs away in terms of how well they finish down.

the rayon pads are a little stronger but finish down almost as good
 
Bob, I didn't say I liked doing interiors, only, my customers tend to be more into how well they look. Honestly, when somebody tells me that they will do the inside, I am happy.

A good wash, rinse, clay, rinse and you will be set for polishing. The more you do, the easier it gets. Don't be afraid to experiment with different products,and pads. Do a couple 2x2 sections we and see whawt works best. Sometimes I have to go back to the cabinets and pull out several things and try them. Had a G35 that finished down with Uno everywhere but the top, only Menzerna FFII would work
 
I LOVE MF discs. I was skeptical, too, but now I'm a follower. I love these things and not just for their cutting ability! Does anyone else think they are 10x easier to clean than foam pads?



MF Disc and D300 are my go to for 1-steps. I don't even start with "the least aggressive" method anymore. If I need something stronger I spot hit with my 3" wool pads and buff back out with my 3" MF dics. I haven't had any "high-end" details, and since I got it, the only car I use foam on was mine...because I gave it it's on "high-end" detail. LOL.



I think MF are mandatory. If I only had 1 pad to work with, it would be the cutting disc.





But like most have said, if you're doing more than 1 car or for money, you need an arsenal. Sometimes MF finishes well, other times it won't. Sometimes foam cuts, sometimes it doesn't.

Yeah, a little bit of compressed air cleans them out quite well, whereas sometimes the air merely forces the product/cut-off paint deeper into foam. And the post-job washup with soap and water is infinitely easier too.
 
I agree. MFs are so easy to clean and surbuf are too. I only clean the pads with soap when I've refinished direct gloss (single stage) paints
