Hi,

I was disappointed with my OXO wheel brush the first time I used it, so I gave it another try today, and I'm still disappointed with it. :( The brush looks great, feels great, looks like it can do the job, but when I was actually using it, the bristles frequently splashed water around, especially back into my face and eyes. I had been using a second wash mitt to clean the wheels, but I thought I'd try the OXO wheel brush. I'm seriously thinking about going back to using a wash mitt. I have more control in getting to dirty areas on the wheels with the mitt than with the brush.

Any thoughts or ideas? Although I don't think it makes a difference, I have BMW M-Parallel wheels.

Thanks!

I would think it would be hard to use the mit between the spokes. If you do use a wash mitt, from then on I would not use the same mitt on paint, so as not to transmit brake dust onto the paint.

Ed:

I have a similar wheel setup on my '02 Impreza WRX (5 spokes with cutout between every spoke). I have tried several brushes to see if I can get something between the spokes to make cleaning a little easier and I get the same results with all of them. They just seem to fling more crap around than just using a mit. Granted the mit takes longer to use than the brushes, but the end result is the same and you don't get brake dust all over yourself.

Stick to the mit....

Move the brush in circular motions instead of back-and-forth.

When I clean my wheels I use a little less water and brush a bit more gently. I hate wheel cleaner in my eyes.

Goggles are a last resort.

I use foam paint brush from walmart which helps A LOT in cleaning wheels.

Couldn't live without those now. They are about $.3 to $.7 each so I stock up a few spare ones cause they last about 3-4 cleaning sessions max.

Comes in different width to fit your wheels.

Spend the dollar and give it a try.

I use the big brush for my wheels and tires and it works great. Circles is better with brushes on wheels. Machining lines (from Manufacture) on wheels are in circles due to them being in a lathe.

When you go back and forth fast or hard, the bristles tend to pop back and splatter what ever was on them. Try to use more circular motions and different pressures. I also push mine in and out into the tight spots to work the soaps and bristles into the tight spots.

Experiment I bet you can find a technique that works on your wheels. Good Luck!

I use the freebie sponge that I got with my Griot's Wheel Cleaner. It works great, even on my BBS rims (sorry, I don't know the model name).

Since I ran out of Griot's I've been using EF HI (and the same sponge) with great success. I never liked the idea of a brush due to splashing as well as possible scratches.

Yeah, I found the brush is pretty much useless on these types of rims. I wax the rims occasionally, and use a small sponge and plain soap which works better for me. When I find it harder to work with just soap, I use wheel cleaner with a higher pressure stream to clean, then rewax. I have yet to find a brush (foam or otherwise) that does a better job than a plain old sponge. I'll keep looking... :)

I have the 330i SP wheel (M-68 double spoke). I find the 3 inches wide foam paint brush the perfect tool to get inside the double spoke and clean them.

I use the inch wide foam brush to get the corners where the spokes join the wheel clean. The sharp tapered shape of the brush tip also works wonders to get into the grove surrounding the wheel studs.

I Z2 my wheels and never used any wheel cleaner other than Z7 car wash. I used wash mitt for the exposed area.

I know i have said this before but Griots Garage three finger foam detail mitts are faulous for cleaning wheels, especially the likes of the double spoked M style wheels.

I think I said it already, but my wheel cleaning kit includes foam paint brushes in various sizes, old socks, water color brushes, Q-tips, rectangular wheel brush, and a wooden chopstick with a kitchen sponge wrapped around it… tied together with a rubber band.

Ok guys, I think the winner of the most anal and careful wheel detailer goes to our good friend BW. You definitely take the cake for now my friend. I must admit, the foam paint brush seems interesting. If nothing else, it should be fun to try it out. Laters.

Thasnks Don! BMW uses one of the most complicated wheel designs on their cars... and uses really dusty pads... so all of the tools are quite useful.

(Yo)Steve(.com) also did a very detailed wheel cleaning. (How dinner is served at his house)

When Shrek and Fiona come back from their honeymoon, they find an invitation to a royal ball with Fiona's parents to celebrate their marriage, an event Shrek is reluctant to participate in. Fiona talks him into it, and along with Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy), they travel to the kingdom of Far Far Away

so r we there yet?.....

the whol;e process is just wipe on & wipe off

P1040296.JPG

wash 10 minutes

sealed 10 minutes

waxed 10 minutes

a total of 30 minutes...for my monthly detail...

time equal to $$ = lack of car care also equal to loses of $$$

I need to confess, i wasnt a good in taking care my car lately, 1st wash after 3 weeks...due to tight schedules

begin with ONR optimum no rinse wash with 3 micro fibers....diluting 1 ounce with 8 litres of water...

If I were to tell my grandma...she is probably 95 years now, that i can fried an egg without oill, she will probably...spanked my head with the frying pan ...as she will probably says...i have cooked all my life...cooking without oil cant work ..... same goes here... washing without rinsing ..... not logical right???? ....but thanks to teflon...coated cooking ware...with minimal oil ...now we can fried an egg...without burning it....

technologies play a big part...making our lives easier & better

P1040258.JPG

simple logic behind this formula is , ONR creates the water tension who hold up the dirt into the microfibers (like a collector) & upon rinsing the dirt will be held down by the suspenssion of ONR.......and dirt actually held & drop to the bottom of it as onr suspense it....
where as when we clean with just water & cloth...we are scratching the surface instead washing it, but ONR clean well...

after ONR no rinse wash

2nd step/ bottle....Optimum - opti seal...coating of protection prior wax....another spray on & wipe off & walk away
