A customer has a work truck he wants to get rid of, but he has his company name air brushed along with the phone number on a black f-250. IT isnt the best looking thing, but he will be bringing me many nice trucks to detail and I want to help him out if possible. I was thinking wetsanding them on this black beast? I removed vinly before, but air brushing that is a different story.

:down wetsanding. Many years ago (before pneumatic tires) my friend wanted to buy a used cop car. It was white, but it had stripes on the doors. I uttered the famous last words "we can just sand them off", so he bought the car, and we proceeded to variously wet sand thru the paint down to the primer, or fail to remove the stripe. It looked vaugely leopardish by the time we gave up. He wound up bringing it to a body shop to have the doors painted.

Edit: Part of the problem was the stripes were 8" or so wide, lettering might be easier to sand off. Maybe the paint isn't as durable and will come off with solvent (or Easy Off) leaving the baked factory paint...maybe you can ask the guy who sprayed it.

Most Airbrushers, myself included will use the same paint teh car is painted with, Dupont, sikkens, ppg and so on. its easier to work with than lettering paint. I am not sure what will take it off easity because it is likely catalyzed paint and possible clear coated as well to be durable. Any good AB artist will also scuff the clearcoat to make sure thier hard work sticks. I havent had to remove any of my own work, and don't envy the guy that decides to do it. EZ off Oven cleaner may work if he hasnt used clear coat but you also have to worry about taking off the original clear coat as well. Like Brake fluid, EZ-off STRIPS PAINT, regardless of what it is.

I would try lacquer thinner on a small area and see if you have paint transfer. If you do then proceed with caution as it will soften paint. Try to get it off as fast as possible and then you might need to polish after it sits for a couple days.
