Is it okay to do this?

Well, where do I start......

I've got S100, which I love, but dropped the applicator it came with...... Needless to say, i don't wanna risk using it anymore......

I also bought 2 packs of MF towels from Wal-Mart, y'know the 5 for $4.86 or sumthin like that........

Would it be okay to use one of the MF towels as an applicator? I tried using my other applicators pads but its a PITA to try and get wax on threre.....

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just like making sure I ain't f'n anything up......

Yup, you're OK. Anything soft is fine to use as an applicator. Heck, I like kitchen sponges to apply waxes and polishes.

As long as its clean and soft you'll be good to go.

Sorry, but I can't agree with the use of Wal-Mart microfiber to apply wax. The microfiber towels that you are speaking of are not a top quality towel. They are fine for glass, leather, door panels, etc. - but I would not touch them to the paint.

You may have luck with them on the paint, but I would not give you the green light on that one.:(

Why don't you like the other applicators? The typical round, yellow ones work well for me. One thing I wouldn't like about using a towel to apply this stuff is that I imagine it will trap a lot of the wax inside itself, wasting wax and making the towel hard to clean out. Another is that I don't think it will wipe as evenly as a foam applicator....

I remember sheepishly asking about kitchen sponges (the reticulated kind) once a while ago. :D I guess I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference.

Its cool.

Buy and use only new sponges and toss them out when you're done. If you drop one, toss it and use a new one. Don't mix products on one sponge, keep them separate.

Get those 3" x 5" sponges that are, like, 5 in a package for $1.49. One of the best and cheapest detailing tools ever. :up

articwhite - thanks for the forewarning, I'm still kinda iffy on using it....

4DSC - are you talking about the yellow Meguiar's pads?

LOL, use it damp, silly. :doh
Uh oh... I've been using all my sponges dry for all waxing jobs. :doh

Is this just your method, or just for these sponges, or is this a case of "We all knew about it, we just didn't tell you!"? :p

BTW. are these the old fashioned, heavier, uneven-looking cellulose sponges, or the really light, poofy, and non-absorbent reticulated ones that come 12 to $1?

Yes, those are what I use for most of my waxing tasks. I wasn't specific because these things are pretty generic.

PS: Aaagh! This thread is progressing too fast for me to keep up!

Well, I've seen lots and lots of people using sponges for all kinds of detailing so I can't say its my idea. But, yeah, its one of those subjects we talk about behind your back in Autopia Chat. ;) j/k of course.

I'm talking about those small, square 3x5 sponges you can buy at the supermarket for about a $1.00 or so. They come several to a package and are in pretty colors. The most unglamourous detailing tool except for the paper towel. :D

Don't you all find it hard to grip the sponge when waxing? My fingers were very sore after trying to wax with a sponge lolz :D had to gripe it very hard to put on my paste wax :D

Any tips or comments on this?

Yeah, get an easier to use wax! :D

I'll post some suggestions in your other thread for you. :)

I dropped mine before, had to switch to a yellow Meguiars pad to finish the job. After I was done I hand washed the S100 pad with some dawn and patted dry....good as new. Some other members just toss a bunch of used ones in the washing machine, again good as new.
