Is it all really necessary?

Got sloppy a few months ago and grabbed used towels from the time before, what can I say, very distracted and did not notice it until I had done about half the car.

When finished I gave it my usual three beer inspection and the finish was the usual, perfect-the Klasse twins. A couple of weekends ago I did the final, for the year, detail and this time I intentionally used the same towels again, and again the job was perfect.

Twice lucky, or does it really not make a difference?

It depends on what is on the towels, how loaded with product they are, if they have any contamination in them, and if the fibers are stiff from dried product. Maybe you got lucky, or maybe when you look closer than a three-beer inspection under harsh lighting you'll find you weren't so lucky after all :nixweiss .

I don't enjoy polishing enough to re-use towels that have a lot of dried product on them. I will, on occasion, grab a "slightly used" towel to dab at a small spot or a non-critical area on the vehicle (wheels, glass, jambs, etc.).

i guess it depends what the towels are dirty from or what made them "used". were they used as wash towels when doing an ONR wash? polish removal? QD towels? drying towels?

hehehe . . . all this talk about beer. im going to go have one right now.

hey, if it works and wont scratch a cd, what have you to loose ? i have some old plush terry towels that i bought before microfiber became a fad . . . they buff amognst the best of fabrics . . and on a black car not a scratch. . .

Its just that I am (was) incredibly anal about the towels, one use only, had to be washed and put in the dryer; perhaps it doesn't really make that much of a difference..

Oh, so it wasn't really a "dirty" towel, but rather one that had been used to remove polish/wax, correct? In that case, it shouldn't make that much of a difference. I thought by used, you meant just some random towel :)

i often think that i could reuse my towels if needed as i change them way before theyre soiled

for the effort involved for my g/f to wash and dry them :) , i see no point in re using them as one day you might not be so lucky

Thaz right...a 5 beer post after a 3 beer inzpektion - wanna make somtin offit?!

LOL

Yea, depends on how used they were. Sounds like it was just a wipe down after a wash and water dries. Used doesn't always mean dirty.
