Is griotsgarage any good?

Well IMHO they are pretty good.

Some will say they are over priced and some will say you can buy most of their stuff cheaper else where.

The reality is:

1. Folks who have tried a lot of the products are generally very positive

2. You can find some stuff cheaper else where....but note the word SOME.

3. The trouble to find the same products cheaper on the web defeats the main advantage of Griots....its a one stop shop. I buy my car care products from 2-3 places plus Griots. If I dropped Griots I'd have to add 10 or more supplies to the list.

4. They are not cheap

5. Service is first class...anything you don't like 100% money back.

Here's a list of what I have used and ratings:

Window Cleaner (incl wipes) - A+

Lint Free Paper Towels (for Window Cleaning) - A++

Speed Shine - B (prefer Final Inspection)

Clay - A (works good, but haven't used other clay)

Boars Hair Wash Brush - C ( a few micro scratches on Seal Grey)

Under Carriage Spray - A (clever product)

100% Cotton Towels - A (love them)

MF Wax and Polish Towels - C (didn't like the sharp edges/binding)

Rubber Cleaner - A+

Rubber and Vinyl Dressing - B+ (not bad, but prefer Lexol and 3M)

Leather Scent - A+

Leather Care - A+

Plastic Polish - A

Plastic Cleaner - A

Brushes 10224 - C (too big, hair falls out too easily)

Large Foam Swabs - A+

Three Finger Sponge - A++++ (nothing better for cleaning the inside of my alloys)

Metal Polish Cloths - A+

Double ended swabs - A++ (these are great for dressing rubber trim on car)

Window Cleaner Set 90247 - B- (MF bonnet leaves lint)

Micro Fiber Gloves - A+

Tire Brush - A (expensive..like a lot of products, can be bought else where)

Blue Detailing Sponges - A

Four Detail Brushes 15507 - A

Never heard of them :nixweiss

Who are they? Have they been mentioned here before?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Just joking. Honestly, do a search. Lots of good stuff written about them. It'll keep you busy!

:up

I like them.

After getting my pads from properautocare.com I would have to say that I think the griots pads aer of higher quality. The yellow pad from proper seems to be more abrasive though, so I would stick with them for polishing. But Griot's orange pads are really nice and last a long time.

I also have their berzerker expensive hose nozzle...the red firehose one. WOW is it overpriced but WOW do I ever like it. If I lost this one (I doubt it would break) I would buy another one with very little hesitation.

I have a bunch of other products from them as well, all of which I ahve been satisfied with.

Beason- Few topics lead to such uhm, strongly held opinions as Griot's Garage. If there's any SPECIFIC Griot's product you're curious about, just ask, chances are someone's used it.

I like them for the few products I bought. Love the short handle boars hair brush for my rims. Sheepskin mitt with linear is great during the winter. Bucket is way overpriced, so I bought the same one (diff color) at home depot for half the priced. Generally, their stuff is pretty pricey. Their support is really great. I had a few questions through email and got some really great responses.

anyone deal with the following products.........

microfiber towels

Lint freee cleaning towels

polish REMOVAL bonnets

Engine Kit

13 x 15 Cotton Shop Towels

Beason- I can fill you in on a few of those items:

MF Towels- You can get MUCH better/softer ones elsewhere. I sent mine back to Griot after trying them a few times. I THINK they marred my paint. After I switched to YoSteve's MS's, no more marring.

Which lint-free towels? The blue polypro ones for windows work well. The cotton polishing cloths weren't soft enough for me and their lack of nap made me leery of using them. I sent mine back.

The polish removal bonnet doesn't work. Because (I think) of the material it's lined with, it just spins/slips on the foam pad it's used over. Another thing I sent back.

The engine kit is OK, but I'm not a fan of his engine lacquer (or whatever he's calling it these days). Personally, I'd get Pro's engine cleaner (Lynn did a product review) and some other items individually from other vendors. But Griot's DOES offer a quick and easy package buy. Actually, I think I have one of his Engine Kits sitting around here somewhere, unused. If you're gonna do an engine compartment, get LOTS of different swabs and some of the 3M adhesive remover.

You really oughta try Griot's Undercarriage Spray. Good product. And his Car Wash. Great lubricity. AND the small, boar's hair detail brushes for cleaning nooks and crannies- I don't know what I'd do without them.

there products are ok but I only like there tools and buckets and undercarriage spray the rest of the stuff is overrated and a personal preferance.

I boycott them because of their shipping prices. :(

Bleeding me up front for products which are unique and "must haves" is one thing. Charging triple for shipping as well is just wrong.

There are about a dozen things there I'd like to try.

Does the orange pad from Griots compare to the White from CMA/LC? Or is between the white and yellow pads?

LOLOL. Let me send you one of the five catalogs I get from them a week. Hopefully you don't get that many.

My take is:

Products tend to be pricey. Customer service is great.

I would say yes. They also have red pads which are not quite as durable that compare to the black ones from proper. Someone here mentioned that they thought that the yellow pads were more abrasive..that they had a hard time getting the buffer to cut with the orange pads. This has been my experience as well.

Yeah, I'm one of the people who had trouble getting Griot's orange pad to cut, even with rather aggressive polishes and compounds. You could spend all day with that thing and never touch anything tougher than a MINOR swirl mark.

Using Griot's Machine Polish #2, I switched to a damp yellow cutting pad- BIG improvement. Griot's orange pads have little, if any, more cutting action than the CMA white. Not NEARLY enough to polish out scratches, IMO. But they are well made and they DO last a LONG time. Good pads for light-duty work. But stick to real CUTTING pads for getting out serious marring.

FWIW, Griot's used to sell a much wider selection of pads, including two different yellow cutting pads. For that matter, despite their current "use only our natural carnauba wax" stuff, they used to sell Autoglym and even recommended mixing the SRP and the EGP together to make a long lasting "cleaner wax".
